Teacher gets away with bullying!?!?

Post by Sat_Nam1 »

My daughter just finished gr. 4 at *removed* Elementary School. She actually never got to finish the end of the year with the rest of classmates because teacher literally freaked out screaming at me to get out of her class!!!.... I was bent over hugging my daughter good bye, (she was tying her shoe), telling her I loved her, and the teacher,*removed* came up beside us saying, "come on V*** your mom has to go, she shouldn't even be here!" I stood up and responded, "Excuse me??". *removed* replied, "Yea, this is my classroom and you have no right to be here!" I said confused, "This is my daughter and shes in your class??? I'm just dropping her off." *removed* than leaned into my face screaming until she was red in the face, shaking her arm at the door, "GET OUT OF MY CLASSROOM! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE HERE! THIS IS MY CLASS ROOM!! GET OUT NOW!!!" I told her we shouldn't have to put up with this B.S, told my daughter to get her stuff cuz there was no way she was staying. As *removed* slammed the door in my face, I told her, "she shouldn't be allowed to be around kids." I was told by a student that when she slammed the door she then stated to the class, "I had to protect you, she could have had guns!".... I went straight to the principles office and in tears reported what had just happened. He said he would "investigate but so far seen this as an unforeseen isolated incident..." When my daughter and I returned to gather the remainder of her belongs we were approached my many students running up to ask why we were there, that we "don't want to go in there" because the teacher is "mad" at us and had been "bad talking" us..... Honestly it was crazy and I still can't believe it happened.

School is to start after this weekend and I have not heard back with any sort of consequences or resolution and have no idea, where she will start school next week. I want only the best for my child as every good mother does. How does a teacher who is getting paid to be a responsible role model, to be treating people with kindness and respect, suppose to be creating a safe learning environment get away with not being held accountable??? The standards for teachers must be re-evaluated!

Too bad we will only ever hear 1 side of the story!

Why did you not drop the child off at the school door like everyone else?
Why did you feel she needed a personal escort to the class room?
Did you do that every day throughout the school year?
Why did you give the teacher attitude when you where asked to leave instead of complying with the request ?
How late were you dropping your daughter off ?

I couldn't begin to comment on the specifics of this story, as it's obviously fraught with back story on both sides likely.

However, part of "teaching" the little ones in elementary school is teaching them to be a little more independant. This includes coming in on your own once you cross the threshold, learning to put your shoes and coat where they belong, dropping off your planner at the appropriate place, getting organized YOURSELF to do what you need to do to be prepared to work.

This doesn't mean that there shouldn't be some flexibility on all sides, and sometimes there are different rules for children who have a special need for whatever reason.

I can't imagine a circumstance where this teacher's behaviour would be considered appropriate, if it went down the way the OP says it did.

I would contact the school principal and find out if he/she actually investigated, and if so, what the findings were. If you're not satisfied with the results of that, contact the district office directly and find out what your options are. Your assumption that the teacher "got away with it" when you apparently haven't heard anything (she could have been terminated for all you know) makes me wonder if there's more to this too...

More to the story........maybe. But I can relate you a story (not this extreme) from our daughters grade one class that is along the same lines. If this is true, this teacher would not hear the end of it until unemployed.

No teacher has the right to treat another individual the way that you and your daughter were treated. Rarely will the school do anything about it, it seems to get swept under the carpet so to speak. If you are concerned for your daughter you can report it to the Teachers Regulation Branch. There is a code of conduct that teachers must follow. I have been where you are, here is the link. http://www.bcteacherregulation.ca/index.aspx

She will not be given any information as to what was done, what was said etc. The principal will tell her that they cannot say anything due to union rules.

Another shaming thread.

I'm just going to say, "I don't believe you" and obviously no one at the top did either. It's possible there were witnesses you weren't aware of at the the moment of said inicidence and everyone was interviewed.

I suspect you thought the on-line community would automatically up take your cause. Nope.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

I personally do believe her. Don't assume that a teacher would never act in such a manner. I have been where she is. I cant speak of my situation as it is under formal investigation. When I approached the school, they stated to me that it was a good thing that I had proof or it would have been a situation of my child's word against the teacher.

As in every story, there are probably two sides.
I wonder how this parent would feel if 30 parents all wanted to have their last hugs and shoe tying in the classroom as the teacher is preparing to start the day. I would say 99.9% of parents are very aware of interfering with whatever is going on in the classroom as teacher prepares to get lessons underway. A little more lattitude perhaps with Grade ones, if they have difficulty parting from parents, but still can usually be addressed with some different procedure outside the classroom. Too bad the parent made such an issue about it her child missed end of the year. She could have just left when asked, and met with the teacher in a separate meeting with or without the principal and her lawyer too if she wished instead of creating a scene in front of the children. I also find it curious that (according to the story), after speaking to the principal this parent then wanted to go back to the classroom, further disrupting it, knowing the situation, to get her child's things. Why wouldn't she do that after school hours?

Sounds like both you and the teacher are crazy.

You both overreacted and both acted more immature than the children in the class
