Three things that offend me about Halloween

#1 - the cost of it. This year, (USA) consumers are expected to spend $9.1 billion, up from $8.4 billion in 2016. It's offensive.
Because millions of people are starving.

#2 - the stupidity of it. Candy for kids is just about the dumbest thing anyone could think of.

#3 - the way the sheeple are told what kind of costume they can and can not wear. I think you should be able to dress up as anything you want as long as you are paying the money for the costume.... which is a dumb idea to waste money for one day a year.

Image
15% of Americans will dress up their pet this year, while children in third world countries starve. That's a little
bit offensive.

Three things that offend me about Halloween:

1) bitter old people who complain about it and don’t want kids to have fun
2) religious fanatics who act like it’s a day of Satan
3) I don’t look as good in any of the slutty Halloween costumes available.

The main thing that offends me is all the tampered candy. You might be thinking that there's never been a case of tampered candy anywhere, but you'd be wrong because he's a picture of what I found in my kid's Halloween candy last year...

For what it's worth it really wouldn't bother me if the door to door thing went away, and was replaced with either individual house parties, or group parties.

As a parent (who lived in the freezing cold east for a while when my kids were young) I used to HATE having to walk them round in the ice and snow on Halloween. And I also didn't like seeing the kids getting all that junk candy.

We spend the rest of the year telling them not to accept gifts from strangers, and not to eat junk, and then magically wave all that aside on Halloween.

I allowed it because I didn't want my kids to feel the odd ones out, but I don't have to like it, or approve of it.

Now, as an older person, I still hate Halloween, because I hate jumping up and down every five minutes to answer the door. And I also hate it when 75% of the kids who come neglect to say "thank you" when I give them their treat. I also hate it when they take short cuts across my flower beds, and their watching parents don't say a word.

So, call me a grinch, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if the door to door aspect of Halloween stopped.

Does anyone really care that people are offended by Hallow's Eve??? If you do...get a life.

The future of Halloween.

It's not illegal, immoral or fattening.

I hear you and I have resigned myself to be the one doing the decorating and handing out the candy. I pour myself a drink, have magazine or IPAD in hand, park myself by the door in a comfy chair for a few hours and try to stay out of the treats. No point watching TV. I've had to barricade my flower gardens so I've ended up with more Halloween decorations than I planned on storing but it's a better alternative than repairing the grounds and I always expect to pick up wrappers the next morning. I love to see the parents dressing up with their kids and seems more and more are doing it. I've found that most kids are polite and I've had a lot of parents telling their kids to be sure to say please so that's encouraging. So far the worst I've seen is smashed pumpkins but most seem to make the night. It's the ones that put an effort into their costumes that make the night for me - especially the little ones that are trick or treating for the first time. Then into Christmas mode......
