Article On Spring Valley Matchmaking

Post by sszarka »

I appreciate Madison covering this story. An important aspect of this issue is that the school made a decision not to inform (essentially withhold) information from parents that affect our children. Information that was serious enough in nature that the kids were threatened with police involvement if they continued usage on the Instagram account. We walk a dangerous line if we allow the school to dictate to us as parents what constitutes information we do and do not need to be made aware of when our kids are involved. Advising parents of an issue doesn't make the school look bad! In this case it would have created an opportunity for parents to open up dialogue with their kids about appropriate and inappropriate electronic usage!

Now that the kids have tried to avoid using the name of their school in their posts.......the internet and the forums have created much more attention towards themselves. Attention that they had hoped to avoid.

These posts would have been made on phones the parents bought their kids, and in the kids free time at home. This is an issue for the parents to deal with. How dare they try to place blame on the school! They're lucky the school got involved at all!

that is actually a really good point. maybe the school can just outright ban phones or insist an app be used that only allows phone and basic text services. cheaper from a resource use perspective.
