A timely thread. Yes, this Christmas song is completely wrong for today's world. I wish people would stop playing it at all.

It's like "I'll Be Watching You" - catchy melody, completely about stalker behavior. Well Baby It's Cold Outside is predator behavior.

I'm conflicted, I don't have the same reaction to the song that some do, since I can relate to both sides, having been the pushy one and been the receiving end of it too, but it was always playful gentle persuasion, never threatening or demeaning. That said, I can see that some would interpret it as being aggressively pushy and applying inappropriate pressure.

I think it is unfortunate that we need to look at the world through such different lenses.

I believe that the "Baby It's Cold Outside" song is just a cute song with a bit of back and forth banter between the two. I believe that she is just being a bit coy as she doesn't want to come across as easy. He is just being persistent as he pursues a girl that he is attracted to but I guess that doesn't fly in today's world.

As a married man for the last 14 years I have no idea what courting looks like these days. I believe it has something to do with swiping left and right and then an activity known as Netflix and Chill. If I remember correctly 17 years ago when I met my soon to be bride, courtship involved me taking her out on dates. I would take her out and buy her dinner or take her to a play or movie. It also involved me getting creative and finding different things to do. I didn't have a vehicle when we met so it also involved me walking or taking her home by bus. One night we missed the last train so I walked her home across the city of Edmonton and then I walked home 40 blocks. (looking back Im lucky I didn't get mugged)

My husband and I got together 18 years ago this month. That just happens to be "our" song! It's fun and romantic and we like the version sung by Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart best. We smile at each other every time we hear the song.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with the lyrics in the OPs link. The only thing that is wrong in todays world is that we have to try and make up some sort of social issue in everything we hear, say, see and do.

The song Baby it's cold outside" seems to be pretty innocent. The most concerning part is that it encourages smoking, which is a widespread health risk today. Going out into cold, icy city streets ( while possibly inebriated) with probably no cabs available doesn't seem like a very safe plan. ANd it appears to be consensual.

Roy Moore had a more effective tactic, just ask the parents if he can date their 14 -16 year old and with their permission, or provide a ride home from work, then, anything goes. I don't think any of his victims claimed he seranaded them into having sex with him.

We shouldn't continually analyze everything from the past to today's political environment. Let's just carry on and stop going too far in the overthinking, takes too much fun out of everything we knew and in our innocence enjoyed.

Yep, pretty well anywhere one would look hard enough, could probably find political incorrect.

There are things which were innocent but are deeply offensive. I learned the relatively offensive version of "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" and honestly, I don't think I, or those who taught it to me were being intentionally racist, but that doesn't mean that if you do teach your kids the offensive version, or even recite it today that you are not being so. Context matters and what was innocent at one time may be considered deeply offensive at another. This isn't a matter of overthinking things, this is a matter of being respectful. Honestly, the only people I hear complain about this one are those who are either closet racists, you know the kind, the ones who start sentences with "I'm not racist, but", or those who have no real idea of what it is like to be significantly discriminated against.
