No one complained.

What did happen, is a radio station in Cleveland, pulled the song from it's playlist. Realizing the connotations of date rape in the lyrics (regardless of the actual intent of the writer), this station chose to distance themselves from the song by not playing it. Then, a number of other stations got wind of this, and followed suit.

That's all.

But then, the internet got a hold of this. And because people love to be mad at someone, there's been a huge backlash against "people who are offended". Even though no one actually was. Everyone is lining up for their kick at something that doesn't exist.

Not even close to true.

There are TONS of tweets and articles online about this song going back almost a decade where people complain. For example

ban1
/ban/
verb
past tense: banned; past participle: banned

officially or legally prohibit.
"he was banned from driving for a year"
synonyms: prohibit, forbid, veto, proscribe, disallow, outlaw, make illegal, embargo, bar, debar, block, stop, suppress, interdict; More
enjoin, restrain
"smoking was banned"
antonyms: permit
officially exclude (someone) from a place.
"he once was banned from a casino in Reno"
synonyms: exclude, banish, expel, eject, evict, drive out, force out, oust, remove, get rid of; More
informalboot out, kick out
"Gary was banned from the playground"
antonyms: admit

I never said the song wasn't banned. I was positing that the original choice to remove it was not in response to any specific complaint. I'd paste a dictionary definition of this, but anyone who'd do that is clearly a serial killer. :130:

I stand corrected.

It really says a lot about society though, that people find the time and energy to complain about things like this. I'm sure it'll die down after Christmas, but that's over two weeks away.

I maintain however that those firing back at the "people who are offended" are making way more noise than this deserves. If you complain about someone else's complaint, and you complain louder than they did, who's the complainer?

It's much like the Starbucks Red Cup fiasco of 2015. An evangelist wacko decried that Starbucks had removed Christian imagery from their holiday season cups, opting for plain red. This cat was literally waving a handgun in the video he made. The backlash against "people who are offended by red cups" was enormous. No one actually knew who to be mad at, so they settled for "them".

" Them" is normally a good enemy
I always reckon they are ppl just mining looking for things to be mad about
Baby it is warm inside... just not the same holiday vib
We can all wander wrapped in bubble warp and hope for the best
Complaining about people complaining about complainers makes well, you the Master complainer
I don't care what songs they play at Christmas as long as we hear Alvin and the Chipmunks on occasion

The Saskatchewan Rush, a lacrosse team, tried to poke some fun at the over sensitivity being levelled by some against the lyrics of "Baby it's cold outside" by displaying the lyrics on the big screen and trying to get the fans to sing along.

A sample of the over sensitivity;

"This display wasn't about calling out a dumb piece of news. This was about a professional male athletics team letting it be known that conversations regarding consent are trivial and a joke. Maybe next time, have a little class."
Uhhhhh, nope.

One person said the promotion mocked those who say the song sounds "a little creepy," especially given the current political climate. Uhhhhh, yup.

Seriously, it's hard to imagine people getting as bent up as some are over a song that was written 70 plus years ago in a world where this was acceptable.

And don't go saying that it was never acceptable, cuz it was. Acceptable and right are two different things.

My advice? Live in the present. If you must worry, worry about today and the future our kids have facing them. Leave the past in the past. Spend your time on things that matter today. Take a deep breath and stop micro analyzing everything that anybody ever said, ever.
Praise the lord and pass the ammunition

I'm surprised there isn't a new rendition of Baby It's Cold Outside with politically correct lyrics (for now).

I think they should just turn it into a Rap. It'd be fine then. Actually, it would be mild! lol
