To me, nothing. I don't get upset over ads, movies or Tv. It's simply a discussion point.

But we have all sorts of people getting mad at everything related to media.

People feel the need to make "all female" versions of movies in remakes, to empower women and combat sexism (Ghostbusters, Ocean's 11) and then of course, men get mad in return... apparently being sexist. People are bringing up the Hollywood hypocrisy about movies with child prostitution or films where an adult seduces a child (American Beauty for example, in the wake of the Kevin Spacey thing).

So this ad was pointed out to me by a female, in regards to the relationship portrayed between a stranger... in the wake of the sexual harassment issues going on today.

It's a discussion point. If you don't get it or don't care... move on

So it's a discussion point, but you don't like the discussion. You can move on too.
It's a fantasy of instant attraction between two "kindred spirits" to advertise a product, that bears very little relation to reality. I get it. Do you get it?

I don't think you "get" a lot of things.

The goal of the thread is to have a discussion about the impact society and current events have on the way we view tv, commercials and movies. If you can't grasp that (and you obviously don't), I really don't know why you keep coming here to post that you don't understand the topic

There's no indication the people in the ad are in love, they're just dancing. For all we know, one or both are gay but simply like dancing. Neither party says "no" so the touching is consensual. Anyone seeing an issue here is deliberately trying to make an issue.

Advertisements are made to give you an attraction to the product. They are there to say "If you buy this you will gain this experience, or that this could be you!" Examples such as a cowboy riding a horse in the Midwest cuts to a cig, or how a car makes you feel like you are flying a jet. Its to sell a product nothing more and nothing less.

People need to stop overreaching and being afraid of the feminist movement. By posting video's of persons behaving in extreme manners and saying things like "I'm a feminist and this isn't right" doesn't make them a feminist. A true feminist believes in equality for men, women and whatever you believe you are.

Ah yes, but there in lies the rub.

What if the commercial sparks controversy?

Take for example, that Pepsi ad. A lot of black people were angry because they felt it made light of Black Lives Matter demonstrations and then all sorts of groups got angry because it made light of protests and the right to assembly. All because she gave a Pepsi to stop a riot during a protest. At the time of airing, there were a lot of demonstrations and tight tensions in the US due to Trump and "police brutality" so people thought it was ill timed and not serious enough.

Or what about the Dove soap controversy (which was really really overblown IMO) and the whole concept of black people being less than white people?

Sometimes ads miss the mark completely. Other times they're made to be something they're not, by outraged SJW

I agree with you that those commercials were ill timed. I believe the Pepsi one was trying to portray that drinking a Pepsi will help people come together. The Dove one I have no clue.
