There is one group dedicated to protecting journalists and protecting their rights, and they're reporting that 39 journalists have died in the Gaza War. There has been no safe haven for journalists.

https://cpj.org/2023/11/journalist-casu ... -conflict/

As of November 9:

39 journalists and media workers were confirmed dead: 34 Palestinian, 4 Israeli, and 1 Lebanese.
8 journalists were reported injured.
3 journalists were reported missing.
13 journalists were reported arrested.
Multiple assaults, threats, cyberattacks, censorship, and killings of family members.
CPJ is also investigating numerous unconfirmed reports of other journalists being killed, missing, detained, hurt, or threatened, and of damage to media offices and journalists’ homes.

“CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians doing important work during times of crisis and must not be targeted by warring parties,” said Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator. “Journalists across the region are making great sacrifices to cover this heart-breaking conflict. Those in Gaza, in particular, have paid, and continue to pay, an unprecedented toll and face exponential threats. Many have lost colleagues, families, and media facilities, and have fled seeking safety when there is no safe haven or exit.”

^^^ every journalist going into a War zone should be fully aware of the risks factor, know they may never be coming back.

My condolences to their Families and Friends.

Canada's Finance minister and so-called substitute PM Chrystia Freeland is supposedly educated in journalism and had a somewhat lackluster career in that, much like this current "pig at the trough" position. I think she should immediately feel the urgency of the situation in Gaza and take the government jet there and start reporting............even though it could be very brief............to you Chrystia...........make us proud.......... :130:

That's definitely a tough situation to be in. It's good to have some anxiety to stay alert, but not to the point where it seriously impacts your safety or well-being. I couldn't imagine doing a job where I have serious concerns about making it home each day - that level of stress can't be good for anyone long term. Hopefully you can find a safer option or better compensation to reflect the risks. Stay safe out there!

Regarding dangerous jobs, if you cannot manage the risks where serious bodily harm might occur, you are in a VERY dangerous occupation.
I was a faller and a POC fire guy and usually could manage the risks with options available to us, including confidence and skill sets.
being on the ground in Gaza with bullets zinging around and missiles or bombs detonating nearby I think is a manageable risk to some extent. Stay away... use drones?
I see the mainstream media wonks reporting, for the most part, in pretty sterile areas or if reporting in Gaza with Israeli guidance. No bombs or missile strikes on Israeli soldiers.
