Offensive Christmas card

OMG. What won’t offend some people. Paula Kirman finds this Christmas card ‘incredibly offensive’. Seriously. What I find incredibly offensive is that someone would use this funny family Christmas card to serve their own self serving agenda.

Go away Paula. Your pathetic.

I was 2 minutes from starting a thread on this when I saw yours Mark1111.
If it were reversed with 1 woman in the middle and 4 men on the sides with the duct tape on their mouths, there would be no problem.
Pathetic. No other word for it.

I may have a bizarre sense of humour, I would never stoop to the level of this family card.

Added later: if those in the picture are okay with it, then its up to the receiver of the card to either keep the card or throw it away.

I think the whole family needs to go for counselling. So that they can learn to allow each one to have their say, take turns, listen to what the other is saying. That way they don't need to make passive aggressive "jokes" about shutting up the women, or letting the Dad have a say too.

From the OP article:

A call to Streu for comment was not returned immediately, but his daughter Haley told CityNews that the card was her idea, based on an ongoing joke within the family that her dad "never gets a say."

"If that is indeed the case, that is was the daughter's idea, that's very concerning as well," said Kirman.

"It demonstrates the fact that we as women, when we're young girls we're bombarded with those kind of jokes and imagery, presented as something that's supposed to be funny but in reality we begin to internalize those messages and we start to think that it's normal."

If Kirman didn’t speak to Haley before calling her out in the media then I think she may have done more harm than good for this family and the women’s movement.

From the OP's link ... Edmonton realtor Dwight Streu has come under fire after sending a corporate holiday card to clients featuring a photo of his wife and three daughters with their mouths duct-taped shut.

Whether you agree with his sense of humour or not - family and friends might understand the message - is it appropriate for a professional to send to clients?

Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

No. End of story.

To family and friends who get the joke. Sure.

But this card should not go to professional clients or anyone in the business.

They don't need "counselling". Fortunately, some people on this planet still have a sense of humour :135:

Digging deeper this morning, I don’t think it’s the family who needs counselling.

According to the article (and the CityNews video below) the Streus have been publicly shamed for something the daughter, Haley, suggested, and that the whole family agreed to go along with.

And, in this mess, it appears that Kirman (one of the organisers behind Edmonton's women's march) was asked to comment on the card before any idea towards her first speaking with the family was considered.

So, dang rights the women’s movement, “still has work to do,” to at least have the 'advocate' try to connect with the people involved and ‘counsel’ them in private before agreeing with a news channel to drag them through the mud on social media, and, now, on mainstream Canada media.

http://edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2018/ ... -on-earth/

Otherwise, it’s nothing less that pulling a ‘sneak attack.’

Given the current climate -MeToo for example) was in bad taste.
Dad probably pushed the blame on to his daughter to avoid losing (more) business.
