I have heard back from Telus and it is legitimate.

I feel much better, now that I have it confirmed.

That won't stop the calls fro auto-dialers. They just dial numbers in sequence until someone answer's.

I mess with them if I'm feeling snarky. The ones that want to steal your long distance from your current provider get irate, and they threaten to call your boss and have you fired! [icon_lol2.gif] Yesterday, I asked the "provider for your Shaw internet telephone" caller for the account number; he said for confidentiality reasons, he could only give me the last four digits. He gave me four digits, I rustled some papers around and said "That's not right." He hung up. We have Telus. :D

The google profile service resellers call me several times a day, 3 at around 10AM, and two and sometimes three at around 3PM.

I used to like it when the kidlet was just pre-talk/learning.
Just hand the phone over, they always seemed too scared/polite
to hang up

They usually provide an option of adding your number to a do not call list. People usually hang up before hearing it...

Don't do it - Just gives them confirmation that there is someone at that number and they keep calling back....

Windows scam now comes in on a 250 number
I just don't bother to answer any calls I don't recon the number. The machine can pick up ( they don't like leaving a msg
I don't know the solution Sudsy, can you request a different number from your Provider?

How can you be sure that the new number isn't somebody else's recycled number ?

It's annoying but it would eventually start on any new number as well. Not very many people have my cell # so I usually just don't answer.

Alan, if it is someone who knows me they can leave a msg for me. These just click.
Before they came in on TO area codes, so they are prolly grabbing discarded numbers
Friends numbers are entered on my phone so they are announced
other legit places my phone announces the company/bank/ etc name
I am not one of those "omg the phone is ringing I MUST answer it types"

I like it!!

My preferred method is after listening to the callers long winded first sentence I ask them what they are wearing.
It throws them off and they end up hanging up on me. [icon_lol2.gif] [icon_lol2.gif] [icon_lol2.gif]
