Scorp, I can't help but wonder if you agree with Greta's assertion that youth in first world countries are fearless for skipping school.

It's difficult for me to agree "fighting for our lives" is an accurate description of what they're doing on their Fridays. Around the world, there are countless children who truly are fighting for their lives. Children whose families have too little to feed them properly, children with no access to potable water or medical care, children in war-torn countries.
The United Nations reports that one in six children—that’s 357 million girls and boys—live in areas of the world affected by war or armed conflict. Despite being least responsible for the outbreak of violent conflict, children are nevertheless disproportionately at risk of being affected by the violence and exploitation that occurs in war zones.
https://www.worldvision.ca/stories/chil ... ow-to-help
Given the great need for activism around the horrific conditions affecting children's daily lives today, I find it quite troubling that Amnesty International has chosen to elevate the notion that first world youth skipping school are "fearlessly fighting for their lives".

I do not deny Greta's right to follow her passions and choose the cause she sees fit to champion, but it seems to me AI risks making a parody of themselves and losing all credibility with those who truly are working hard to help children who are right now genuinely fighting for their lives and not just on Fridays, but on a daily basis.

She says "whole nations are now literally being left in ruins or disappearing underneath rising sea levels". I would be interested in understanding which nations she is referring to.

I do think she is correct when she says there is an awakening going on, but IMO it is not the awakening she is hoping for. People are starting to tire of alarmist activism and its dogma. I could be wrong, of course. Time will tell.

A comprehensive catch up article.

“The state of the world 6:00 A.M.

It’s Greta’s World But it’s still burning. The extraordinary rise of a 16-year-old, and her Hail Mary climate movement.

News: FFF Countdown to Global #WeekForFuture September 20-27, 2019

http://www.fridaysforfuture.org/

Here are some general guidelines:

1. Fridaysforfuture want you to only strike in a way, that you feel safe with.

2. Many Fridaysforfuture strikers have a police approval for their strike.

3. It is common for these approvals to only allow for a quiet, sitting protest.

4. Fridaysforfuture are unlikely to be able to provide legal support if there are problems, so FFF advises strikers to liase with local NGOs. These NGOs usually know local lawyers, who are well versed in protest situations.

5. We are a peaceful and quiet striking organisation, but unfortunately we have already seen examples in some countries, where some individuals or organisations try to join a strike for the purpose of causing trouble. Please take care and prioritise your own safety.

. . .

How supporters can support

Many people do not think they can strike, i.e. they are worried about their school grades. The Belgium schools all used clocks which then 'struck' and then took a picture and this was there method to strike on November 30. Other groups have other ways to find a way to strike, even churches have their bells strike! Some empathy strike. All support is welcome.

Greta's submitted report before attending the House hearing tomorrow:

Testimony of Greta Thunberg
Climate Activist
Before the United States House of Representatives
Foreign Affairs Committee Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, Energy, and the Environment,
with the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis
“Voices Leading the Next Generation on the Global Climate Crisis”

My name is Greta Thunberg.

I have not come to offer prepared remarks at this hearing

I am instead attaching my testimony. It is the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C
[SR1.5] which was released on October 8, 2018.

I am submitting this report as my testimony because I don’t want you to listen to me. I want you
to listen to the scientists. And I want you to unite behind the science.

And then I want you to take action.

http://docs.house.gov/meetings/FA/FA14/ ... 190918.pdf

Greta's testimony:

Global warming of 1.5°C

An IPCC Special Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C
above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways,
in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change,
sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty

Summary for Policymakers

I like her style. Greta is certainly a little warrior. We need many more like her.
"Every dollar you spend is a vote for what you believe in."
"My country is the world, and my religion is to do good."

The best backstory to the above that I could find:

"Greta Thunberg to Congress: ‘You’re not trying hard enough. Sorry’"

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/ ... ough-sorry

Senator Ed Markey, “We hear you. We hear what you’re saying and . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6o93Gwiarc

"Thunberg declines National Assembly invitation; CAQ noncommital on Montreal march"

But, "Thunberg, a global star in the fight against climate change, will participate in the Montreal rally."

I hope people were watching or will replay and watch the hearing.

Greta’s testimony was as I posted above. Her comments otherwise were true Greta.

Jamie Margolin supported her stance as a plaintiff in Piper vs the State of Washington.

Vic Barrett supported his stance as a plaintiff in Juliana vs the United States.

Most specifically, I hope conservatives were watching Benji Backer.
