Poor quality and the year of returns.

So far this year we have has several items that have failed and been returned for either a replacement or a refund.

These were not cheap items either but name brand.

To me it's unacceptable to pay a premium price and then have it fail so soon. A couple of items failed within the first few months and others withing the first year.

Luckily these have been replaced or refunded under warranty but it sure makes you wonder about the quality we are being saddled with these days.

Extended Warranty sales are big money makers for the stores.

We get an extra warranty if paying with a credit card as well as Costco will cover items long after the warranty has expired.

Cars are getting really bad these days, quality wise.

I think we just hear about it more because of social media. But there does seem to be more action taken when a fault is found that could be dangerous, and that's a good thing.

Maybe Costco is selling clear outs? I hear you seems like most everything is made to fail usually 2 days after the warranty expires.

I see it every day.

When I was driving taxi it seemed like every day the temperature dipped to freezing I had a customer call me and say " My Phones battery is about to die. It was just at 50% " my phone is relatively new.
I knew right away what make phone it was, and assured them that I had the right cord.

This phone company got caught messing with their battery life through firmware around a year ago, and yet their loyal fans refuse to get anything else.
My ex girlfriend is one of those.

I notice brands tend to build a good first product. Then as time goes on. The shape will stay similar but metal parts will become value cast pot metal then plastic. Everything heavy and durable becomes light and junk. The names and packages stay the same. The product in the box is inferior.

Appliances today are rated for 5 years so if you figure out the cost per year they are ridiculously priced.
Bloody expensive to repair too. It cost me $600 to get my ice maker fixed a few years ago. Partly my fault cause I though I could fix it myself and ordered a part that could not be returned once opened. Of course that wasn't it.

Also the first repair guy had no clue but charged me anyway.

Yea, we were dinged once for a Mother Board on a fancy JennAir.. was over 600 plus the service call. Back in the day basic washer and dryer lasted forever it seemed, now just looking at the problem costs you over $100. Doesn't seem to matter how exp ensive the damn appliances are either. Annoying as heck to have to do returns.. a fountain malfunctioned, they asked " do you have the box" Like the box had to be destroyed to actually get to the fountain.. Customer Service " no returns without the box"

Fixed it myself but won't buy from there again.

I'm looking for an econo car.
There were those always reliable foreign names, but now I can find garbage on all of them. Maybe it's just to much available info.

Toyota Corolla manual transmission, go for a base model, pretty much still the best you can get. Its when you start adding all the *bleep* electronics, driver's assistant garbage where you really get into $$$ problems. If you really wanna go old school, brand new Nissan Micra, manual tranny, no power windows, no power locks, no cruise, no A/C all for $10K.

I'm sticking with my older car because I'm concerned that a new one isn't going to be as reliable. Of course it won't last forever and by then new cars will be of even worse quality.

Regarding Costco electronics.
I found out (from an electronics repair shop) that manufacturers make special models of the exact same TV for big retailers (like Costco).
The Costco version of the TV will have fewer ports and cheaper components. He demonstrated this to me with two of the exact same LG TVs.
The serial numbers were slightly different...along with much cheaper components and fewer ports in the Costco version.
They sell cheaper...because they are cheaper. I guess i should not have been surprised....but actually seeing the insides of the TV and having things pointed out to me within the assembly....it was a wake up call.
Two essential strategies for success.

1) Never reveal all you know
2)
