There are 4 fallout shelter/bunker companies in North America.

To prepare for Armageddon is useless, as it is described as "the end of the world".
Armageddon (/ˌɑːrməˈɡɛdən/, from Ancient Greek: Ἁρμαγεδών Harmagedōn,[1][2] Late Latin: Armagedōn,[3] from Hebrew: הר מגידו Har Megiddo) is the prophesied location of a gathering of armies for a battle during the end times, variously interpreted as either a literal or a symbolic location. The term is also used in a generic sense to refer to any end of the world scenario.

If it is the end of the world, then there is no escaping it. It's over, we are all finished, it is unsurvivable, good night.

How can anyone predict and prepare for ALL other disasters? There are so many possibilities. One could prepare for "the great flood", but instead there is a great earthquake. One could prepare for a nuclear bomb attack, buy what if instead it was an EMP?

Any preparations will only extend the pain and suffering.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

After looking at some reviews and the products, I would go with Atlas I think. I can't see it being water tight or not rusting out for 100 years as they claim. Not that your going to be able to hit them up for warranty work after SHTF.
Atlas seems to have the best price for what you get with it.

U pick up 10X13...$50k US...for the smallest size.
I'm guessing it would be around $150K hauled and installed for the smallest one they sell, but way more when putting in a well, tank and sewer tank and drainage system. If the stay is only a few weeks then well and sewer wouldn't be required.
$ 1,400,000 US for the 6000sqft largest one not installed and a 10X51 is $120,000 not installed.

I'm a pessimist so I would assume that it was the nuclear war brand of SHTF.
In a good scenario and depending on what part of the country the shelter is installed, I would assume it wouldn't be safe to come out for at least 3 months, so I would want a really good air filtration system that would last for years if need be. I think it said the Swiss made air filtration systems are worth $8k more than the American made air system...I would upgrade to the Swiss made air filtration system.

Meh...

I've had a good run.

That type of future of living like a mole doesn't appeal to me. Not the kind of world i'd want to continue in. :130:

I would LOVE LOVE to own a little bunker or fallout shelter.

But they're expensive and I don't have the land to build my own lol

rather go sit on the roof and await the disaster than live in a bunker for years.

But if you are determined to live the Bunker life cozy up to someone already has one ( we know Bpeeps prolly does)
Or, find them and crash

Of course it's on CBC. The media, and especially CBC love these doomsday stories. Just check out the doomsday Climate Change stories on our subsidized media.

Woah! Not all of the doomsday climate change stories and what do about it come from the CBC.

"What If We Stopped Pretending?

The climate apocalypse is coming. To prepare for it, we need to admit that we can’t prevent it."

By Jonathan Franzen September 8, 2019

The New Yorker

http://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultur ... pretending

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And if people check out the doc in the OP article that I posted, to the hostess (and me) it looks like that first featured family aren't bothering to 'pretend' about the 'coming' all--they seem to be already living in it--something like living in, "The Last of Us." [icon_lol2.gif]

Also I love the kids with the .22s--reminds me of when I was that age; although I could do as just well with my Mercury .22 single-shot that my Pa got me second-hand from good ol' Uncle Ben's.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, sorry, I forgot to add that that New Yorker article comes from the Cultural section . . ..

So it doesn't really qualify, either, as news.

Ya, sticking around for that is not at the top of my list at my age. An extinction event asteroid strike, then no one has to worry about much, but nuclear war, climate change, etc. will leave survivors who will have to make some type of go of it.

That will be for younger folk. Good luck to them.

I think the same way. A good bottle of booze, a bit of that new legal substance, and off we go--contribute in my own way to the new 'economy'.

Here's the best comment I found so far under the CBC article.

I think most people should not be concerned about being prepared for Armageddon or a huge disaster, but worry themselves about lesser things - car breaking down, getting injured and not being able to work, water tank crapping out on them.

Cause most people are not prepared for any of that either and it has a much higher chance of happening.

At my age I would rather the meteor/bomb hit's my house so I don't have to worry about surviving.

Watched it last night.
The first underground shelter that they showed was made by 'Atlas Survival Shelters', and was the only real and proper set up. I wish they spent more time on that...but they only showed it for a minute or so.
The 3 groups people they focused on...wow.
First group. They were not 'normal'. They were hillbillies/ subsistence farmers with addiction/mental issues that live in filth. Hey, maybe they lived like that for a cover , and they had a much more elaborate survival plan that was well hidden in plain sight.

Second group were a group of extremist Christians with a ' wacko leader'-of course. They were in hardened above ground concrete buildings on a FORMER military installation. Stupid...they are dead with a capital 'D', as it would be directly hit by nuclear weapons-de commissioned base or not. If I were a Russian general planning a attack, I would target all former and present military installations. Anyone using decommissioned missile silos, bunkers etc...bad idea.

Third group were city dwelling millennials that ( self admitted) don't know how to can food, hunt etc. They order takeout. They have plans to take their pets with them...cats , small dogs...I'm not getting into why they are dead anyway...I don't think I need to, but... what idiot is going to bug out with a cockatiel cage strapped on their back or a yappy dog that will give away their position or consume resources. Pets ( as is the average city person) are a liability...unless it's a big guard dog that is very well trained.

This CBC Passionate Eye episode only focused on Americans , and it didn't focus on the 'normal prepper'. I think it was done intentionally that way to paint the picture that a prepper is a wacko.

There are not many preppers in Canada. Canadians tend live in some wonder world bubble- all will be okay, sunny ways. They will put their great wealth in a house in the city, fancy hardwood, designer bathroom sink, with google home or alexa- (ha ha) fancy cars, designer clothes, skip the dishes...you get the idea. There is a 99.999% chance that you are one of them.

There are less than 200(ish) proper fallout shelters spread across Canada-all of them are privately owned and on private lands. (No, I will not provide a link or any proof for that info...you're gonna hafta take my word on that) You either know what you are doing and up against , or you don't. Shelters that people think are 'proper' shelters in their basement that they hacked together a few days before the war, and not underground spec purpose built with proper ventilation etc etc.....nice try, but they don't count.

The other .001% of Canadians that are prepared for the unthinkable...they have correctly come to the mathematical conclusion that given a unlimited timeline...and a increasing nuclear arms race...a nuclear war isn't a possibility...it's a absolute inevitable fact that it will happen-one day... some day.

Most won't even admit that they are thinking about having a plan or building a shelter out of fear of ridicule or having a label placed on them as a wacko prepper. It isn't wacko, it's smart- no different than having a financial portfolio to make money for a rainy day.
Getting a fallout shelter for your family doesn't mean that you have to go get bunch of guns each with 10,000 rounds of ammo and live like a total overkill prepper like you see some do. It just means you have a safe place for you and your family to go on that inevitable day.
Yes, I have a place to go,.. some of you have read the 'nuclear disaster inevitable' thread that I started and I think you know that I know what I'm talking about. If anyone needs info on, or how to start getting a fallout shelter put in...PM me. You wouldn't be the first, and you won't be the last.
