Room mates!

Oh to have room mates to help pay the bills.

Workable?
Horror production underway?

Is it different today? And how so?

Would you do it again?

I have done the roommates thing off and on in the mid 90s then again from 2004 to 2011.
People I knew or friends of family = unsuccessful
New-to-me people = no expectations & more respect

I think I would enlist the services of Happipad were I to do it today.

Done in my 20's, and that's probably the only time I could tolerate strangers living next to me.

I'd rather get a dog if I wanted a roommate.

I'm married, so I have to keep my roommate. That's okay though. She's kinda cute

Took in roomers a couple of times to help pay the bills.

Yes, I'd do it again.

Never-ever-ever again! I had roommates in the past to get by before I bought a home. Absolute nightmare. The only ones that worked out were best friends that I knew well.

I had my share of absolute trash including:
*A guy I literally assaulted with a frying pan to get him out of my house because HE decided to move and wanted half my stuff because he thought I didn't use it often enough.

*A thief who would B&E houses and store stuff in the basement and invite strangers in to look it over and buy stuff. Called the RCMP they wouldn't do anything. He eventually robbed me blind and disappeared leaving a trove of stolen goods behind.

* I left for a weekend and my one roommate invited an entire hippie commune to squat in my living room. Took months to get that smell out.

*A few creepy weirdos that would try to come into my room at night. An escaped mental patient. Druggies. Alcoholics.

Those are just a couple of highlights. I'll never again live with anyone I'm not close to. Its not worth it. Try to help someone out and they will take complete advantage of you.

Yup, I'd do it.

Its becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Rent a big flat, everyone gets their own bedroom and share the common spaces. Good way not only to cut down costs, but be social adept as well.

Popular? Or necessary seeing that the land ownership is concentrated in the hands of a few?

Popular, as in trendy.

I would put forth that those people simply could not survive without this new "trend."

I know right?

I've never had room mates per se. I had a three bedroom townhouse and briefly considered it.

Of course it is. Many around the World live in huts with 13 relatives as room mates called "extended family."

What happened to your room mates once your bills were caught up? Eviction notice? Or did they get another hint?
Inquiring minds here.

LOL!

Its not that bad actually.

Really gives people a good lesson in organizational, cleaning skills and following rules/schedules.

I'd argue a good lesson as to how to budget for having your own space.

Roomster is a little too close to monster in my books.
