So which was Trudeau doing? He claims what he did was racist, although he says he did not understand that at the time. It seems portraying another race by belittling it in any way is both racist and insulting.

He was doing neither. What on earth made you think I was proposing only 2 possible options?

From what I can see, it's pretty obvious he was trying to dress up as Aladdin for a costume party. I think the most we can accuse him of is being insensitive or ignorant toward how insulting some people find it 2 decades later.

My wife found an old picture of 13yo me at Halloween - about 30 years ago now. I was dressed as a terrorist. I had on a stupid looking robe, a horrible turban, and a toy grenade hanging off my belt. It was racist and horrifying - I tore up that old photo. Nobody batted an eye or said a word about it back in the day. I certainly didn't have any agenda other than a cool halloween costume. I don't think it's fair to judge people's past actions based on today's morals and attitudes. Almost all of our greatest figures in history would be seen as vile people if we did. WE were racist/insensitive back then - an entire society. Not just me, not just Trudeau. We need to own it, we need to recognize it, and we need to grow and change - pointing fingers at others is just being ignorant or hypocritical.

It seems like you have either not seen or are ignoring the 'other' photos that have surfaced where Trudeau is portraying other characters and which he himself has admitted are 'blackface' and 'racist'. The other point to mention is that the 'past' which we are referring to in this case is not way back before these things were understood as being improper. I too agree that sometimes this political correctness is taken too far but maybe not in this case considering the number of times it happened and the environment in which it occured in. Why is he apologizing at all is there is nothing wrong with what he did? That just would make him more of a hypocrit to say I am sorry even though I didn't really do anything wrong.

It seems like your trying to change the focus to Trudeau. This was not intended as a political thread and/or as a thread about Trudeau. I simply used that latest photo as an example. I haven't ignored the others, it's more basic than that - I haven't even looked at the other photos. They may be racist, I don't know.

The Aladdin costume photo was taken 19 years ago. I remember 19 years ago quite well and I can say with absolute certainty that the topic of brown/blackface wasn't nearly so prevalent. Back then just about every costume party you went to you'd see at least 1 person wearing it.

ya. usually its the idiot friend.... anyhoo… from the guy who changed our CANADIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM, because its was offensive And changes MANKIND to peoplekind because it was offensive to all the bubble wrapped knobs. and to have done this *bleep*.is pretty much shooting yourself in the foot and asking why your foot hurts. Even I knew back in the day that black face was a HUGE taboo. but one thing... type mankind and peoplekind . and see what your computer spell check underlines as wrong.. haha I just found that out. anyhoo. have a great day ladies and gentlemen. Be happy no matter what idiot try's to run our country. Its the only country we have.

It isn't just Blackface or Brownface, there is also Whiteface.

I just look at it as harmful if someone intends it to be.

Now someone is carrying this far too far. Defacing, or vandalizing Fuhr's election signs? Come on!

Grow up. :-X

Plus a link to Al Jolson singing Mammy, the man Bobby Berger in the story was impersonating

I hope I didn't offend anyone with the links

Y'all need to watch Tropic Thunder if you haven't , funny as hell.
Still can' t believe they were able to make that movie like that with Robert Downey Jr playing a black man.
Maybe funny blackface passes, no funny blackface bombs

The history of blackface that Justin Trudeau is contending with

P.S. I think his popularity goes up because of black face. Mark my words.

This morning my mom was *bleep* at him saying he should resign over it. Now I am wondering if she will be voting Liberal for the first time in her life.
As for me, I was going to vote Independent until today. I may be swaying towards the Liberals, depending upon how Justin handles it.
I really don't care what the party says, just what his actions are.

"This isn’t just mockery or having fun at the expense of offended minorities. It is the continuance of a white supremacist tradition that, outside of mixed company, reifies a silent belief in race hierarchy that positions the white race at the top.

Diversity our strength, indeed. Just as long as we’re clear who’s in charge."

A quote from your above link.

I don't think his popularity will go up, he is sunk.

^^ You are forgetting something really important. half the country is absolutely sick of the Trudeau's PC pandering. Seeing that he too has done non-PC things will soften the hearts of some.

A HILL STAFFER WRITES

Name withheld on request.

Hey Warren, now seems like a good time to tell the story of Justin Trudeau on Oct 22, 2014, the day of the shooting on the Hill.

Long story short, everyone had been moved into the 5th floor cafeteria in Centre Block. Mostly staff and media cause CPC and NDP caucus had already begun by the time of the lockdown. But LPC caucus starts later so they were having their pre-caucus meeting in their leader’s office on the 6th floor.

They moved everyone to caf throughout the day before evacuation later that night. Anyway, at one point an East Asian man walked in to the cafeteria. He had a big beard and wore a turban.

Trudeau jumped up and joked rather loudly; “Hey there you are. You know they’re looking for you out there. Hey you’re making everyone in here nervous!”

He obviously knew the man, he was a liberal staffer. The man seemed to take the joke well but that’s not really the point. Those of us who heard it looked at each other in shock.

But who will believe Conservative staffers? There were staff, MPs and media in the room. I know people heard it too. Most media were on phones doing radio hits so maybe they didn’t hear it. Anyway that’s the story from that day. Sorry for the novel.

Another juvenile event on behalf of the PM Trudeau! He is just a juvenile idiot to say the least! :smt045
