CNB vs GMS - Middle schools

Postby GardenMum » Jan 24th, 2013, 12:04 pm

Just looking for some input on these two schools. I know people will have strong opinions, but I am just looking for some feedback.
Bullying - how it's dealt with and if it's a problem
Drugs/alcohol
Sex on school grounds.
I think alot of it will come down to our parenting, but I just want to know what we are looking at in terms of negative atmosphere.
On academics, which is a stronger school?

I know families at both schools. And haven't heard complaints from either. Mine attends CNB. Seems to be a fine school.
Do you have to chose between them for one of your children?

Glenrosa Middle gets my vote any day of the week. the peer mentoring is great. Both my kids had great experiences there. As a matter of fact, we moved to the Bench and my daughter still rode the bus an hour each way, to stay at GMS. She transferred in Grade 9 in the fall to RMS, and within 3 weeks, she came home begging to go back to GMS. We pulled her and when she went back to GMS, she was met at the door by the vice principal telling her how thrilled they were to have her back.
I swear some people slipped into the gene pool that had no lifEguard.

I have to ask... sex on school grounds?
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

I've heard of unicorns too, doesn't mean they exist. We've got a kid at GMS now and from everything I've seen and heard it seems to be a pretty decent school with no real issues. Our kid is happy there and is doing well.

I've heard nothing of the sort.

I've heard of it in highschools, although most of such shenanigans occur outside of the school grounds.

Middle school is where the shenanigans start. Sex on school grounds at 13 and up is old news.

Ok, sure, I won't go so far as to say it's never happened but I'm sure it's not something that happens often enough to get all worked up about.
