They will be humanely euthanized, not torn apart.
They will not be spread across their owners' yard.
Their owners will not have to live with the horror of watching their beloved pets being ripped to pieces.

A pitbull can clearly become dangerous when it's not looked after properly or supervised. There should be a requirement to have a fenced yard with a locking system to ensure they cannot escape. Imagine the response if this were a child??

If there is no way to legislate pitbull owners to ensure they have complete control over their dogs consider a breed ban. The safety of pets and children should supercede the few in the public that feel the need to own a pitbull. How many breeds are out there for people to pick from?

I'd like to own a grizzly bear but realistically could I control it? "Maybe" if I had the training and proper environment to raise it. You can't always domesticate a wild animal. The pitbull has traits that resemble a wild animal. There are too many people who own these animals for all the wrong reasons and are not serious about limiting the harm it can do to others.

As for comments saying "any dog can be violent" - not all dogs kill other dogs. When was the last time you heard of a Shitz Zu mauling another dog to death? Some things in life are common sense including the fact that pitbulls can be very dangerous animals if they are not properly cared for.

Yes, the owners are ultimately responsible but holding them accountable now is an after thought. Bottom line is that there are many people who should not be able to own pitbulls!

Guess some of you will be happy now.

7 PM Update: Dog control confirms that the two pit bulls, voluntarily surrendered by their owner, have been euthanized.

Thanks for the 411...I happen to be a certified vet assistant...I know what goes on...

I'm not here to talk about the owner's...These 2 dogs lost their lives because they did not know any better...If you don't want your dog to be aggressive, then you correct the behavior as its happening...

That was to be expected but at least they didn't suffer.

^^^Why was it expected? Neighbours say they've never had trouble with the dogs so why weren't the owners ordered to have the dogs muzzled and on a secure chain/rope when outside. Wasn't the dog who bit the boy a while ago under those same restrictions?

Nobody can say that until they've had an iv with deadly chemicals being shot into their veins...

I'm guessing that there was never a complaint made about the dogs...Otherwise you do get the "keep the dog muzzled and tied up when he is outside" ....I think people on this forum have been patiently waiting to hear that the dogs were euthanized...Disgusting I think....

I bet the owners of the shih tzu would like to do the same.
