This is not an event supported by the school. From what I understand, these campouts involve kids driving to a remote area in the hills, drinking, and partying all night. When I discuss this with other parents, many of them see camp outs as harmless fun that they once participated in. Some issues that have been raised for me are : a) these kids are underage to be drinking. I get that kids will drink. However, how can parents say it is a good idea to drive up to bear creek and get drunk? This sounds pretty reckless. B) This event is to be held on a school night. When did it become acceptable for teens to party all night long on a school night?
Mbss is anti grad campoutkelowna. I think it is our responsibility as parents to do the same. These campouts are too risky. I was told that a young man crashed his parent's vehicle down a ravine. I have also been told that the mess left after these camp outs is pretty extreme. Grad should be a fun time, but not unsafe.
Thoughts?

You mean that kind of party?

And, all those offences were committed at Spring Lake over the weekend, when a party of 60 to 80 people pitched their tents and parked their cars, trucks and trailers for a three-day party, leaving behind a trail of destruction and garbage, ranging from broken chairs, couches and tents to beer cans, bottles and trash.

In the process they hacked down live trees, built crude structures, drove into the lake, built large fires and left some of them smoldering when they vacated what once was a peaceful little wilderness fishing lake.

It is legal to camp on Crown land, even when it’s not a recreation site, but turning a patch of wilderness into a landfill site is not.

^ don't forget the physical and sexual assaults, drunk driving, alcohol poisoning, drug use, etc. Back when I was in highschool there was apparently a large one and the schools principal & police officer were checking kids for impairment as we drove into the parking lot because some kids were driving to school still drunk from the night before.

Like someone posted before, less than a 1/4 of the kids actually go to these things, so anyone not attending isn't exactly missing out on a part of the grad experience. Any parent allowing their kid to go to something like this is a bit of an idiot.

I laugh at all the parents who won't let there kids go. Here's how I look at it, these kids within a few months of grading will be driving. And 1 year after will be in a bar. So if they can't handle themselves at a party. Don't let em drive and don't let them go to bars. You really think.a person can just grow up in one year ? I know 10000000s od kids that went to those partied they have been around for years. There's been 1 death. There's also been deaths at bars to. Where it's a considered a responsible place to consume alcohal. I think what I'm saying is these types of events are sapposed to slowly expose kids to these risks in life in hopes they make I out safe. You can't be there all the time. And if you are. Your kids missing out . Sorry for mistake grammer. Etc on a phone while computer gets rebuilt. Hate touch screens

I'd rather be a responsible parent than not. Promoting underage drinking isn't responsible.

This logic is so full of flaws it's hilarious. Also most kids can drive before they graduate.

Doesn't sound to me as if you like your kids much, either.
