Over-consumption is a problem for sure, but making Oprah wholly responsible for it is far from wise.

Trained consumers. You'd think she was handing out cures for cancer.

Not Oprah's fault, this much is true. She is a cog in the wheel.

I got "laid off" from the Kelowna store 2 weeks ago and got severance. Same goes for the staff of the west K store. The positive they have that I didn't, is that they have each other to go through this with. There was only myself and one other person let go from my store, and it's something I never saw coming. Having been with the company for 9.5 years, it was an awful blow.

It's tough and it happens to a lot of people in the work force. Can't do anything about it though.

Nothing to see here, keep shopping, you can't change anything, the rules of the world are written in stone.

According to the government, you are a enemy of the economy. In our materialistic, capitalistic system - a healthy economy relies totally on people buying material luxuries they don't need.

So come on, chip into the economy and buy a new TV for each of your bedrooms every 3 years.

According to the messages our government allows companies to project to the public (children especially) - you will never get laid, nobody will like you and you will die alone, sad and full of regret - unless you buy something - now.

Our economy revolves around that message. Embrace it.

As a business owner I full heartedly agree that we need to have consumers spending money, myself included. But it's the overspending which is the root of the problem that exists today of businesses closing, the lack of spending didnt' get us here. Overconsuming is like overeating, eventually you get a fat debt and have to do something about it. Society as a whole has to change both it's eating habits and spending habits. Again Oprahs fault. Didn't she start the whole cooking show craze? :dyinglaughing:

Sorry, yes I meant sarcasm. You have to admit though, believe it or not, she has been pretty influential in the US. I myself am not a fan of her. But that's another topic.
