Lightning strike and blackout in Westbank

Post by meadbh »

There were two or three big flashes of light a few minutes ago, followed by a thunderclap, and the electricity went out. Was a generator hit by lightning?

Would more likely be a Transformer or a line down. We do not have "generators".

Power just came on.

Pardon me, I'm not an electrical engineer, I don't know my generators from my transformers LOL!

I tried several gas stations from SS to Chevron and they all were without power.

Pretty good dump of rain with the lightning. 11.1 mm fell in about 5 minutes, but now it is sunny again.

Another good lightning strike in our area again tonight...I live in Bayview and around 5:30 I saw the flash and heard what I thought was something glass falling in my bedroom and shattering...but I realized it was the crack of thunder right overhead! Never heard anything like that before in my life! Power stayed on this time though!

I've heard that sound before - great description of it, too. I always figured it was the lightning sizzling really, really close to me.
