Taxidermy Question
Just found a very recently deceased bird of prey. Appears to be a falcon or small hawk with beautifully striped tail. Died within a couple of hours as it is still warm. No signs of damage except possible broken neck. Appears to have died diving into our walnut tree after a smaller bird as there are feathers in its talons. Does anyone wish to give this beautiful raptor a second life. I sadly do not have the funds to pay to have it done but would be happy to donate this beautiful bird to someone who wants it for themselves or a museum or First Nations use. Not sure how to preserve it but willing to freeze it for someone. Can arrange for pick up.

Re: Taxidermy Question
Without knowing exactly what you have, You might want to consider calling the Conservation Office, some birds are not legal to have in possession. At the very least, they can give you some ideas to who might want it.

Re: Taxidermy Question
Thank You. I have contacted them and am hoping for a reply shortly. I am pretty sure it is not an endangered species but best to make sure.

Re: Taxidermy Question
Found a dead bald eagle on the lakeshore years ago. Froze it and then took it to the conservation office.
They ran a metal detector over it, sold me a permit for $10.00 and off I went to a taxidermist.

Who did you take it to? How much did it cost to get done?

Re: Taxidermy Question
It was sent to Vancouver to be cleaned out and mounted.
It`s a beauty, glad I had it done.
It was along time ago but I think it was in the $500.00 range.

Re: Taxidermy Question
CO has to check the bird out for cause of death and species although I am fairly sure it is an immature Merlin. Then I can apply for a permit. Not sure how long it will take but my Daughter would like to donate it to her school.
