Coyote kills small dog in Lakeview Heights
I live in Lakeview Heights on McCallum Road and this morning lost my beloved dog to a coyote. My "Sophie" was in our fenced yard just at the side of the house and had just gone outside (around 8:30 am). I heard a strange sound, looked out the window and saw a very large coyote with her in it's mouth. We tried to stop the animal from going further up Boucherie but it was too late. A few minutes later we heard the tell-tale sound of a coyote pack yipping in excitement. My "Sophie" was limp when the coyote had her so my hope is that she was already dead. My dear friend climbed up to the top of Boucherie and although did not find any of her remains he saw many, many coyote trails. For all pet owners please be very careful and never, ever leave your pet outside by its self, these animals are getting bolder and more aggresive. I never thought I'd lose her this way. :)

Very sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. I know how horrible it is. We had our dog taken from our yard in Kelowna just off of KLO about four years ago. Its a horrible way to lose a pet.

Glow in the dark paint from a paintball gun would be cool.

Re: Coyote kills small dog in Lakeview Heights
Sorry to hear of another pet lost.
I read the story on Castanet today though, and must say I'm a bit puzzled as to why anyone would act like coyotes are rare in that area?
They aren't, and have been around for ages. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a den on Mt. Boucherie somewhere even.
Where I live there's a den on the hillside across the road, and even with them that close, I don't actually see the animals very often, but there's no doubt that they are there. I spotted one a few weeks back eyeing my dog in the latter part of the afternoon.
I'm speculating they likely do more hunting in the evening hours.
I know back in the 90's I used to golf Shannon Lake course, and recall seeing the animals run past us on many occasions. They certainly didn't have much, if any, fear of man, when it came to getting their dinner.

Coyotes have been in the news before and discussed on the forum:

I feel for those that have lost their pets in this way.
