What are you doing for Family Day?

Post by mandygeering »

I know there is some great events going on around town, like swimming at Johnson Bentley, 5 bucks for the whole family, games, prizes etc. What are you going to do?

Family Friendly Jokes:

Two babies are sitting in their cribs…

Two babies are sitting in their cribs, when one baby asks the other, “Are you a little girl or a little boy?”

The other baby shrugs. “I don’t know how to tell the difference.”

“I do,” says the first baby. He carefully climbs out of his crib and into the other crib, then disappears beneath the blankets. After a few
seconds, he resurfaces.

“You’re a little girl, and I’m a little boy,” he says.

“How can you tell?”

“Easy. You’ve got pink booties, and I’ve got blue ones.”

Make sure the bills are paid and pray my job continues. Some people will head to the mission for a meal or look for a place to rest their head. Some kids will help their dad pack his bags so he can go north for work. Welcome to BC

Everyday is family day for me, I am a family guy. I don't understand this "Family Day" thing. Might just be another excuse to get out of work.

That's what its for I guess. From what I hear last Family day on the news a lot of people said this is the first stat holiday that is just about the immediate family.

Like this

Aug long...fishing camping out of town guests

Labour Day..same type of thing

October Thanksgiving...running around with guest and turkey and stuff...a

Christmas and new years again stuff with family and other things

Feb Family day not dedicated to any type of Halmark Holiday so you can do what you want with the family...

hey don't get me wrong...all those days I do nothing and little as possible but its more for the Joneses I guess that has to be busy bodies during that time.

Like I said...its a day that I can do Absolutly nothing and that's IT... phone is off PJs all day, and the slow cooker doing stew so I don't have to do nothing....love it.....

Everyday should be family day but I guess what they are trying to do is create a day for the whole family that is named for the whole family. Just like Mother's Day and Father's Day. What's next Grandparents Day? I guess it is supposed to be a reminder to those who don't tend to their families the way they should. Here is the scoop:

Family Day is celebrated on the 3rd Monday of February except in BC where it's the 2nd Monday of February.
In 2014 Family Day is Feb 17 (Feb 10 in BC)

Family Day is not a national statutory holiday, it is only observed in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan and as of 2013 also in British Columbia. Two other provinces have holidays in February: In PEI Islander Day (new since 2009) is celebrated on the 3rd Monday in February and in Manitoba the 3rd Monday in February is the Louis Riel Day holiday.

Since this is not a federally established holiday all federal workers work on Family day including post office employees and public servants.

Family Day was originally created to give people time to spend with their families but it also provides a day off between New Years Day and Good Friday as they are approximately three months apart.

As mentioned above, unfortunately, not everyone gets Family Day off, which makes it a debatable holiday in many provinces. Why can't the whole country simple agree on 9 or 10 common statutory holidays remains a mystery and a good indicator of just how overcomplicated our laws are.

Common Family Day activities include skating, playing hockey, snowboarding/skiing and going to various winter festivals. But the best best thing about of Family Day must be beaver tails and stuffing ourselves silly with pancakes with maple syrup!

Both of us went to work. But not a full day, just a couple of hours.
