I'm guessing he cashed in on the sale of the land and then went south.

One thousand square foot six million?? You can buy some pretty splashy homes for a lot less.

Thanks for your absolutely useless input. People tend to reference a source then they say "I saw this story on the news today".

I guess the courts will decide.

The articles don't really clarify whose property this tree was on. Assuming this was on a neighbor's land, maybe he could seek compensation there, but it doesn't seem like that's where his attention is.

All this crap about "two forest fires, who knew!?" is garbage. Unless the first one removed every single fuel source, the fact is, you're probably still living in an area that is prone to forest fires.

I assumed the tree was on his neighbours property otherwise why include him in the lawsuit.

Sorry, I got totally focused on the "Fortis BC" in that post.

I've removed some potentially libelous comments, I suggest they stay far from this thread! Thanks!

It was listed for 6 million before the fire. That's why people moaned about him crying on the news for help after the fire. He had no insurance which means he had no mortgage on a 6 million dollar place. Now he lives in Mexico. Cry me a river.

^^ That's ancient information in that link.

BC Underground hasn't been in that location for years, if they still exist.

Well it was mentioned in a previous post that his son was operating it under a new name. Don't know if there's any truth to that or not. Could just be a similar business that the son started.

That may be, but definitely not in the location listed. There's a completely unrelated business situated at that address.

It is unfortunate that we now live in a society where too many people refuse to accept responsibility for their own negligence or stupidity.

You mean the actions of the neighbor who allowed a tree to be overgrown in such a manner that it contributed to the loss of the home?

No question not buying insurance is stupid, but if it is the actions or inactions of a separate 3rd party that caused the damage, should not that 3rd party be responsible?

If the neighbor is in fact liable due to his negligent ownership of the tree in questions, and if there was insurance on the property in the first place, the insure would have paid the claim THEN gone after the tree owner to see if they could recover the loss. Lets hope the tree owner has insurance =D
