Wind twisters (or whatever they are called) can be found at dollar stores in a variety of shapes and was successful by one home owner at least.

Re: Woodpeckers
If they are Flickers and the males are drumming on the roof vents, the best way to detour that is to make the same drumming sound on something metal. I found our car bumper worked. You make the same annoying noise and it establishes to them that that territory is taken by another male. You do have to catch them early in the mornings. If it is a Woodpecker maybe one of those fake owls will scare it off. It is probably eating bugs on your siding. Best of luck.

Get a pellet gun and shoot them down from your roof at night just when they are going to roost for the evening.

Re: Woodpeckers
I had the problem several times and found that a well placed rock usually looked after the problem. Or get him with the hose.
Scare em once and they usually don't come back, at least not that year.

Re: Woodpeckers
I had one doing it to my old house, I had it lined up perfectly in my sights one day with a high power pellet gun and I couldn't help but to notice what a beautiful creature it was. It was a large red male. I dropped my aim a bit and took off two tail feathers, he dropped to about a foot off the ground and flew away, he never came back.
Going today, hear tommorow

True that, they are a pretty bird, but annoying as hell, attributes shared 100% with the deer in my area.

They are all protected federally. Learn to enjoy their company and their benefits to the ecology instead of killing them. They are just doing what woodpeckers do, after all.

What do you mean by all, woodpeckers, or birds in general?

I had no intention of killing it. I wanted it scared and mission accomplished.
They are a nice looking bird though. The one(s) that targeted my house were hammering on one of the aluminum vents on the roof and it really echoed in the house.

That's their mating call - they've figured out metal makes a louder noise.

I know that's why I asked if the statement made meant "all" birds or not. Starlings for example are a nuisance bird, non native to our parts, and extremely harmful, both to crops, and other birds that do belong here, so popping them with a pellet gun is no big deal.
I've dealt with a few that became aggressive in the yard, and believe me they will even dive bomb your head during nesting season, if they feel you've gotten too close. I've seen a flock of those things, clean up all the grapes in my back yard, in ten minutes.
Even chucking rocks at them didn't deter them much.
I see crows aren't protected in that list either, but I've never had an issue with a crow.

It's so wonderful at the crack of daylight to hear the sound of a woodpecker on a metal chimney, that beautiful sound resonates threw out the house……. not. Nicely throwing nerd football does wonders in removing that sound. lol

Flickers are not migratory birds therefor not protected. Not saying you should kill them. Hose does work very well.
