The list said they were getting rid of instruments, books, furnishings etc. It was quite a list really. Good place to pick up a new guitar or drums.

Or your own equipment.

If you purchased the gift certificate with a credit card from a company that is now bankrupt, it's possible you may be able to get a refund from your credit card company... it has been done, but may be unlikely.

Just curious. If you are about to claim bankruptcy, why would you not spend the entire day calling everybody on the list to get their instruments back.

There has to be some point you know the end of business is there. So even if it takes an entire day or to, it would be the honerable thing to do, is get your customers equipment back.

Giftcards would be more difficult, as you would not want to let the cat out of the bag that you are closing.

But the equipment. You could easily get that back before you claimed bankruptcy.

In my understanding of bankruptcies as my dad worked for a company that went belly up. If you have receipts or proof you own some of the stuff going up for auction you can reclaim it from the bailiffs before auction time. He used to have his own tools in the building and when he showed the receipts to the bailiffs it proved they were his and he got them back. Usually everything is locked up even personal items belonging to others. The bailiffs have to have proof you own it and not the bankrupt person/business. It's worth the try to take a receipt to them and if you have pictures of the item. Or if something has a registration # and it's shown clearly on your paperwork...

It would be in the possession of the bailiffs. You might still be able to get it back with proper proof of ownership.
