I don't think the fire up Westside Rd that far can be seen from Glenrosa. And there's a couple of hills in the way.
We're in smith creek area, and we can't see anything.

Lightning sparks blaze

Lightning is responsible for a very small wildfire that is burning six kilometres up a mountain near Westside Road, close to Vernon.

Three attack crew members from Vernon are headed to the scene, just off Attenborough Road.

Kayla Pepper with the Kamloops Fire Centre says the blaze is estimated at 0.1 hectares in size or about a 1000 square metres.

“Due to the poor access there will be one air tanker from Kamloops also attending,” she says. “It will do one fire retardant drop and then we will evaluate the fire from there.”

There are no structures threatened and the blaze is considered to be in brush and grass only.

The North Westside Fire Rescue is also attending.

There have been several lightning strikes reported through out the Okanagan Valley and Pepper says that if people spot smoke to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 from a cellular phone.

Have you called in what you see Qualize? Each month, there seems to be "smoke, fire, etc" in the Glenrosa, Smith Creek, Peachland area. Either you drive around a lot looking to the hills or think a cloud is "smoke." As someone who was evacuated in 2009, I find these "cry wolf" posts very troubling.

We have a fire each and every weekend in our firepit, are very aware of how the winds can come up, when we can and cannot burn etc, but remember, a lot of folks up here do this too and smoke in our mountain area from these firepits does rise at times.

I am glad that more are aware of what is going on, but sometimes it is a little too much. Your title to this thread states "Glenrosa Forest Fire." Until this is confirmed by the fire dpartment, please do not assume there is another fire up here.

I am sorry if I have offended, that was not my intent, I am just tired of the repeated threads of "forest fires."
