Lakeview Heights: beware and be aware

Post by occasional thoughts »

The latest owner of the Lakeview Plaza and former Lakeview Elementary School properties has brought forward his proposal for redevelopment of the plaza by way of a development permit application. The Lakeview Heights Community Association has received a referral on it, DP 14 - 12, and our board members don't like it! We have been given til July 31 for any public input. Until I figure out how to upload it here, please request it from Andy Gaylor at DWK planning, or send me a private email request through this site.

CERJ Shopping Centres, owner, has applied for a commercial development permit and variance to redevelop the Lakeview Plaza. That is not the problem; the Lakeview Heights Community Association and others have supported that in principle for a number of years. The problem is the, shall I say, boring and uninspiring designs being put forward by the developer. I do wish I could upload it here, I've tried, but the DWK document is a PDF and Castanet Forums do not allow upload of PDF. So I'm hooped in bringing it graphically to interested parties through this forum/thread.

Check your PM.
Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

I have shipped the PDF attachment off to oneh2obabe who has graciously offered to upload the development permit and variance application for all who wish to see.

Came as a zip, not a PDF ... will play with it and see what happens.

Massive improvement from the existing little strip mall.
I am fairly happy with it.
Will be sad to lose the market for a few years though.

It's being done in stages so G&H will not be closed. The building they are in now will not be removed until their new digs are ready.

The District of West Kelowna website has a pdf. of the submissions for the development. It's quite detailed and shows the stages of demolition/construction. Looks like a good plan and will be great for the area.

Oh good another shopping mall in West Kelowna, just what we need as there isn't another one for at least 3 minutes!
How many empty spaces will this one have?

Another one? Isn't this one already there? Sounds like a tear down of existing and rebuilding. Looks great.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

The existing mall has been there for something like 40+ years. It's a part of the community and is just getting a much needed update with additional services and amenities. It's all good.

Not to mention the residential upgrade.
Those apartments have seen better days.
