Poll: Recreations Guides a waste?

Post by matai »

With the new technologies available to us, do you think the thousands of paper versions of the recreation guides printed by the different local municipalities are a waste of resources (trees) and money to print, handle and ship to every home?

I mean, everyone is screaming "go green" yet towns still overprint stuff with our tax money that is easily accessible online and that only ends unlooked at in the trash. Heck even Sears now prints their catalogues on cds.

And of course, a couple paper copies could be available at city hall for the dinosaurs without a computer.

Same for the phone books. Who still looks at paper phone books? I think I received three this year alone.

I actually like the hard copy. I tear out the pages that interest me and put them on the tack board.

Seeing as how you are using last falls guide Matai I can understand your frustration.

You are not wrong about the multiple versions of phone books.

I see my wife use the guide quite frequently. Receiving a hard copy serves as a reminder to register the kids, stays on top of the fridge for quick reference and gets recycled when out of date.

I like the hard copy too!

Plus a large number of people using rec centres are seniors and may not be using a computer nor have access to one. With visual impairments they also might find a hard copy to easier to read.

My wife uses the hard copy and she's not a dinosaur when it comes to technology.

Can't anyone just look at it online and print the 1-2 pages they need at home?

I'd be curious to know how much each of these books cost to print & deliver.

If for example they were made available online only, would YOU personally be willing to pay to get your own paper copy delivered by mail, like a subscription to a newspaper?

We like to use the hard copy. It's nice having all the info in one place.
