L O N G lost love for sure

Post by occasional thoughts »

Did anyone else read the plaintive letter to the editor in the Westside Weekly yesterday. Boy, it tugged my heartstrings if it is on the level, and no reason to think it is not.

The headline was "Looking for a long-lost friend" and it was someone, apparently from Alberta, looking for a Brian Orlin Flanders who moved to Westbank in 1946. What brings the moisture to the eyes is the penultimate para, as follows:

" We would like for him to contact us so that we know that he is alive and doing well. I was his girlfriend/fiancé at the time and have always waited for him to contact me or come and get me." Signed by a Dawn Howe who gives an email address. If he moved in 1946, she's waited all her life.

Correction, Brian was born in 1946, and moved to Westbank in 1969.

I have been searching for my friend Brian Orlin Flanders since 1969 when he left Alberta. He has moved from Grande Centre to Westbank, Kelowna, Penticton, now to Powell River. His friends and I miss him a lot. He was born Oct 16, 1946. Please, if anyone can help me get in contact with him I would greatly appreciate it. This would be my chance to wish him a very Merry Christmas. Someone out there must know something about his where abouts. Please help me.

My apology for the error. Not quite waiting her whole life, but a long time.

Truely fascinating in a Shakespearian tragedy sort of way. Maybe she'll find him.

Whew! It's not my husband...

A long time to wait and wonder. Hope she learns the rest of his story.

OK, people let's cut to the chase here; does anyone know or has heard of a Brian Orlin Flanders? Ask your older relatives if you're a long-timer here.

Thought it was "46" when he moved?

That's worked out great for me!

No, see update above. Born in '46 and she was looking for him since '69.

what a ridiculous statement, if she was a "stalker" she would know where this guy was, dont you think?

I would not want to be this guy, happily living his life and having this woman find me after 45 years of her waiting for me to come get her.
Yeah, I think she could turn into a stalker.
One persons Shakespearean Love Story is another persons what-the-hell-were-you-thinking moment. There was a reason why he didn't contact her or come get her for the last 45 years. Who knows what it was, though.

Sorry, missed that.

As far as stalking who knows why they lost touch. You read stories all the time about people who lose touch and are reunited.
Doesn't mean she's a stalker.

From what appears to be Dawn Howe's facebook page.

I am so happy that my old friend contacted me. Must have talked long distance for over 45 minutes about our lives and mostly about our children & grandchildren. We also discovered that our paths have crossed multiple times over the years without realizing it.

Finally a good news story come true.

Thanks for posting that, I am always afraid a little for the one being searched for, as in, why's and what fors. But that's me.
