One of my 7 hens has been laying really, and I mean REALLY thin-shelled eggs so they break in the nest or are cracked when another hen comes onto the nest . And I don't know which one or I would isolate her and force her moult(or take her head off). I have been mixing oyster shells into their morning porridge (they also have them freely available) and I put Apple cider vinegar into their drinking water but every other day I see a broken/cracked egg in the nest.

Anyone have this experience before and what is a sure cure?

I have had them on a resting cycle (no supplementary lighting and 3 have completed their moult) and I just last week started getting them up around 7 with lights on and their production has come up from the 2-3 eggs per day to 3-4. I know I don't have a deliberate egg-eater because the rest of the eggs (harder shells) survive.

My yard is quite of chickens(I gave them to the good care of Nom)
I still have my Golden Pheasants though and his courting call is quite loud this morning.

FF does she need protein. WE had this problem too and I believed we moved to a higher protein food.

She has so many comfy places to lay her eggs and chooses a barren gravel area exposed to the wind.
I put some boards up a threw some straw in with her.

Do you know how many potentials she has? Where is the cock in this scenario?

She looks comfy. They brood in the most unlikely spots. Reminds me of the kildeers in Alberta.

Not sure how many eggs,2 that I caught a glimpse of.

The cock is just strutting his stuff as usual.He should be in full plumage by thee end of the year.

Going to a 'Spring Fair' and small animal sale hoping to find a few replacements for our murder victims....

Well, we got 2 replacements but they are the perfect age at 11 weeks to quarantine for a couple weeks or so and then go right in with the big girls. One is a lilac Orpington and the other is a black Orpington and they are very quiet and calm in their temporary digs.

Heheh, got the little suckers coming to my hand for treats and they are getting more interactive. Nother week or so will take them in the cage to the big girl pen for a familiarization session. Looking forward to pullet eggs in a couple months.
