I don't see a place for farm animals in subdivisions.
I think they all do better on farms.
Free range chickens? Or would they be cooped up?
I disagree totally with your post, Advocate. Chickens, kept properly are NOT smelly, messy and noisy! A well-built, small coop with a small yard 8 x 10 ft would easily accommodate 4 clucking hens. Tended by knowledgeable owners, preferably those familiar with the requirements of chickens would be capable of maintaining 4 clucking hens that would cause No Problems to neighbors.
Four clucking hens on one side, four clucking hens on the other side, four clucking hens behind, four more across the street - the noise adds up. And yes, they smell. Sorry, I've been around chickens so I know this for sure. Hopefully they don't cause problems for neighbours.
What about keeping sheep?

Many people in a lot of places these days keep chickens in cities. Many municipalities class them as "pets" as opposed to "farm animals". Chickens make wonderful pets. If you check out that other thread, you'll see many links to Urban Chicken organizations and to other municipalities that allow chickens.
I realize that. I have friends with chickens.
I must clarify "chickens" as hens - not roosters. Yes, roosters are noisy. Hens are not, other than a bit of clucking once a day or every other day when they lay an egg, then announce it Roosters are not required for hens to lay eggs.
I realize that too! LOL You do need the rooster to make another chicken though........or did the egg come first? lol
Properly kept chickens are not smelly. They require care, as does any pet, but they are so good for the environment, which is not something you can say about a dog or a cat. They require shelter, protection, food and water. In return they will weed your garden, catch your harmful bugs, aerate your soil, fertilize your compose and give you breakfast.
In return, they also give you fertilizer, which is where most of the smell comes from.

cuz if it had 4doors it would be a chicken sedan.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Well no, that was not what I was thinking. I was thinking because they can leap small fences with a single bound. Then try and catch the little bugger.

Yes and what I mean is it wouldn't matter how propoerly kept, smelless and quiet they were, there would be those nosey busy bodies that would come up with something to whine, cry and throw a childish temper tantrum over. It's like when I used to walk my dog at 5am when I was a kid on my paper route. Sometimes I'd stop on a long stretch of street and throw a ball for her. She'd run and get it and come back and wait for me to throw again. Made no noise what so ever. Yet the dog patrol got complaints from lifeless losers peering out their windows at 5:00am with nothing better to do but complain. It's in allot of people's nature to whine and complain and when there's nothing to complain about, they look for things.

I wonder how many calls the city gets about crows, magpies, dogs, geese, ducks other chirping birds and the like? I bet they get lots of crank calls every year.
