What is growing in my yard?

Post by flamingfingers »

This past week or two have brought up plants that perhaps in another time I could identify; however, I have maybe forgotten or never knew what these were. Can you help me identify these?

If I don't know what it is then it's a weed!
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?

The third pic is Columbine, it's a perennial with wonderfully coloured flowers.

I can't Id the first two right off the bat.

The first pic may be a Peony Tree. Leaves look right.

Thanks QK, columbine strikes a chord.. believe I did see it in my Baba's garden decades ago.

Am interested in the first pic as the thing appeared like dead branches and then got buds and this is what has evolved over a few weeks.

I'd say peony tree for the first pic, too. Lucky you.

Last one is definitely a columbine
First one looks like peony foliage (I only have a mini bush so it's a bit different looking than that..)
I don't know about the second, you'll have to post pics if/when it flowers!

Here's pics of a columbine and peony of mine from last year viewtopic.php?f=34&t=30584&start=225#p1002465

The second has leaves that look like a plant I bought once. The package claimed the berries were "delicious" so I was so excited to see it come up. The "delicious" berries tasted like sand and twice as gritty. I also see the stuff all over where they grew last year, but I'd have to go to a nursery and look at seed packages to match up the plant with a name.

It would be a 24/7 job getting rid and keeping rid of the dandelions here. And I am not going to use any sprays in this garden, so I will grow to "LOVE" the nice yellow dandelions. My chicks will be overjoyed to have them to munch on.

Thanks so my everyone! I now have a peony tree, columbine, bleeding heart, ivy and day lillies!! Super!

LOL - I actually like dandelions - such nice, happy, yellow flowers :D

The young greens are good to eat, too. For you - AND the chickens!

I just leave the dandelions to grow now. I find they do not bother me. I used to pull them but found broken roots just produce many more. I refuse to spray them, cause, why.

According to some stuff I've read, dandelions are acutally good to have in your yard as they bring nutrients to the surface. I hear they make a nice wine too.
I haven't failed until I quit.
