Thanks Glacier, that map is awesome !!!

I've been itching to plant something for a couple weeks now, unfortunately we can't put anything out here until at least the May long weekend and even then we still have a chance of them freezing.

I'll have to settle with indoor herbs for now.

Thanks, Glacier - had not seen that map before. Wish I could zoom in even closer for my area because it changes from town to some of the outlying areas depending on whether it is in the east-west valley or the north-south valley. I am in the east-west valley so it will be warmer. Maybe I am a 5b or even a 6a??

Grand Forks is no higher than 5b, but if are just east of Grandforks or around Christina Lake, then you might be as high as 6a.

It's interesting that the only places in Canada outside of the BC coast rated as 6b are south eastern Ontario, the West Kootenays around Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail, the Fraser Canyon up to around Lillooet, and parts of the Okanagan namely between Penticton and Summerland.

Here another map.

Very interesting maps! Hey Glacier, the dates for the two differ with the most recent being 2000. Since it is 2013, would you be able to speculate as to whether any zone shift has occured in that time?

Glacier - that latest map puts me as a 5b. Slightly warmer than I previously thought. TAGT. :D

I'll be planting peas soon :D

Hey, has anyone ever tried to espalier a fruit tree? A book on pruning I picked up has a section on it and was wondering how hard it is really . . . the book suggested you could gain a zone by planting a tree against a wall. My inlaws have property generally too cool for peaches, but if it works for real that would be awesome.

It was Trip.

Trip has far-reaching powers - I had snow this morning, too. It's raining now, though, and all the new snow is long gone. Now its just a dismal, grey day with a cold wind.

I've been counting the days until the Greenery opens. Just can't wait to go in and smell the moist soil and see all the pretty colours! I always buy enough pansies and violas for some pots the first day. Later I put them in the flower beds. They naturalize and spread and now my beds are full in the spring and fall with cute little "face flowers". :sunshine:
