Do you know this plant?

Post by grammafreddy »

I want to plant some of these in my yard but don't know what they are. They bloom when the daffodils and tulips bloom and grow about five feet high.

I found these ones at Guisachan Gardens on April 21, 2009.

TIA.

Cool beans - thanks.

Yeah, I figured they were in the lily family.

Any idea where I might find some bulbs or seed?

Art Knapps carries them in a variety of colours. I used to have several, but as with all bulbs, they died out. If you plant the lower varieties, you really need to put them up in a raised bed or something as looking down on them isn't nearly as cool as looking slightly up. Especially the ones with 'freckles' inside.

Seems this must be a fall bulb and not a spring one. Will have to wait to get any bulbs. Thanks, pbear - I want the GIANT ones :D

You'll have to plant the seeds the other way around though so the flowers don't grow upside down like that.

Hi Gramma;
The lily that you like is zone 4-8. It might be hard for you to overwinter. It will need some protection. Good luck.
