$1.50 at Costco and you get a pop with it too.

Hostility is the wrong word, disbelief would be more accurate.

I bet the beer is Molson or worse yet Budweiser.

First, you haven't said that you will purchase ALL the materials required to build this "man cave." Why would you expect tradespeople to take on this project entirely at their own expense?

Secondly, you should seriously offer paying in more than hotdogs (blech) and beer. Are you not able to paint or assist the tradesperson in any way? Are there goods (other than hotdogs & beer) or services that your are capable of that you might be willing to offer in return? Bartering is great, but you're not really bartering with much on your end.

Thirdly, good luck.
Don't take my silence to mean I've agreed with you; I easily could've just lost interest in explaining how wrong you are.

Let me know if this scheme works.
The neighbour has a nice piece of land that he isn't using.
I found a nice plan in a book from the library for a 2,400 square-foot rancher.
If I can get someone to accept the challenge of having it all built (I will up the ante from mystery meat to
hamburgers) without the neighbour finding out, I am mortgage free; and possession is 9 tenths...
