Contractor for small Bathroom Reno

Post by stoneho »

We're looking for a contractor who would be able to do a small bathroom renovation for us in our condo. Looking to change the bathtub/shower tiles as well as check the plumbing, seems like the plumbing for the shower head is loose.

Do your homework. CHECK ALL the previous work of the person you pick, and his references. Make sure he has his OWN liability insurance, should something go wrong..... I have gone through 2 1/2 years of getting a nightmare bathroom done and we are still having problems. You do not want to go through this. Make sure you ask lots of questions about the products, warranty, durability, quality, etc. Make a list and get the answers from at least 3 different sources. Wrong tiles were put in ours that were like walking on ice if water was on it. Dangerous fall situation. They all come across as a nice guy at first,
they will make lots of promises and the end result may not come out as you want. Im not trying to scare you but its a fact, be thorough and in the end you will be happy. If not you might be back in 6 months when the leaks or mold appear. It happens. The company the works with a restoration company here in town whom did our bathroom are still out there. When they got paid, all we saw was dust and no answered calls. There are also good contractors out there, good luck.
' City of Kelowna will have information on the company/contractor if there were complaints or issues.'

Don't overlook that plumbing and electrical are regulated trades.
Gotta be ticketed or registered apprentices.

Ask to see the tickets.
You can verify the validity of them on ITAC's site with his name and tix #'s.

Keep in mind also that home insurance company needs to be advised about electrical or plumbing changes made as if something goes wrong!!! Especially if its a handyman with no tickets!
