So many like Cmdr. Wilfred Owen

Post by hellomynameis »

So many like Cmdr. Wilfred Owen
Innocent hearts now black and broken.
So where now, our pure redeemers of peace?
Is the citizens soul not allowed to cease?
From the national rally cry of sorrow
For the given sons gone the ‘morrow
Given wives, given dreams
Given to despair it seems.
Unconditional love?
Please tell me
We’re not
Above
It.

Note: Sometimes I feel like the call to support our troops becomes blurred with support for the war/wars, so there’s that, then there is the earnest hope that every Canadian and Afghan gets to enjoy a long life without the hardship and terror of war and that our soldiers come home safe. This poem deliberately remains untitled, it is an orphan.

Below is a link to a truly masterful poem, a link to the inspiration, Dulce et Decorum est, By Wilfred Owen:

P.S. “Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.”
:Translates into:
"It is sweet and honourable, to die for your country."

Beautifully and artfully said.
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.
