Gout - pain relief
Hi. My mom has gout. She says it is on the bottom sides of her feet and is excrutiating. Does anyone have any suggestions for the pain? She is on a lot of medications after having 4 heart attacks. I googled gout and found out
that some of her [much needed] medications can cause it. She does not drink.
What do you do to manage your gout?

Quit eating peas, just for starters. Get up and walk more.
Good luck to your mom - gout is not fun.

Has she been diagnosed with gout? The bottom of the feet could be plantar fasciitis.

I found another forum on the topic and they suggested using raw potato on the gout.
She called me today to say that it really relieved the pain !!

My mom swears by Cherry juice and she has a glass everyday and if she doesn't her gout bothers her.

Bottom of the feet does not sound like gout, the uric acid builds up in the joints. Check with a doc, but what I use is INDOMETHACIN, needs a doc prescription, but really works. Gotta take it right away at the onset, don"t let it get so bad that you can't move.

Re: Gout - pain relief
She let me go to the doctor with her yesterday :)
Yes, it is Gout.
Two of the heart medications that she is on can cause Gout.
She has had it two times previously.
She is not going on any more medications.....
A. doesn't want to
B. has 20% heart function and is on lots of meds already
The Gout forum I found said to put peeled potatoes on her feet and wrap with gauze.
Apparently it took the hotness away very quickly for her.
Mom usually downplays everything so that we don't worry too much or "hound" her
when she has an issue ;)
She is very impressed with the potato remedy.... swears by it already!
So...try it if you have Gout.
She is also eating cherries from her freezer.
Thank you all so much for your replies :sunshine:
