Workin' Out

Postby Fixer 166 » Feb 24th, 2013, 3:31 pm

I think this will be a good one for those who work-out or those looking to get started. Its never too late.
Health Canada recently revised their daily recommendation. They changed from 30mins to 15mins of elevated heart rate per day. The theory being that even 15mins will help and that the 30mins may have scared some people off. Come on 15mins per day, you can do it.

I smashed .5hr on the elliptical this morning which it told me was 300 calories.
300 calories = one beer.

What did you do today

I do 30 minutes of cardio 3 times per week followed 2 rounds on the circuit (12 reps on each at around mid weight) and 5 minutes of stretching. I usually do the elliptical as well. We also go swimming once or twice per week.

I've been getting to the gym about 4 times a week for a variety of cardio classes, usually zumba or something like that. I stay about half an hour after to do some core work and some weights for the arms (since those classes are pretty light on arm workouts). Oh, and I stretch. Trying to get/keeps some flexibility.

Friend and I are in on a subscribtion to Datura Online http://daturaonline.com/, in our spare time we are attempting to learn the art of belly dance. Fun! And quite a bit harder than it looks.

It doesn't get easier, you just get better.

Wanna try something?
If you're into push ups, make a diamond with your pointer fingers and thumbs by placing your hands close together, then try push ups. If its too hard spread your hands apart untill you are comfortable. Go!

At 55 years old, I use my elliptical For a half hour 4 to 5 times a week Keeping my heart rate between 135 and 140.

Then I do two sets of 35 push-ups And then two sets Of 80 pound arm curls.

If anyone is having problems doing push-ups because of bad shoulders I would recommend Using a product called push-up pros .they rotate the arms and shoulders naturally as you go up and down. Some fine it makes the push-up more difficult

Today is Zumba. I tried Tabata last night and made it through half the class before I got so dizzy I couldn't stand up. Realized later that I had forgotten to eat lunch >.< (not something that happens often - was a really stressful day). Will try it again at some point, this time making sure I have enough fuel to run on.

Eating well affects your workout, as does eating poorly and forgetting to eat. GI/GO - right?

I used to do Zumba and after the initial learning of le moves it was easy to intensify it and really fun. Tabata is a killer! (but feels so good later!) :) <3

I did mountain climbers and squats this morning, got my heart rate going and buns burning! I like HIIT training for its speed (time spent doing it) and results.

Burpees are on the menu tomorrow!

I just hit the gym for the first time in probably 9 months. Warmed up with a variety of calisthenics, then did 3 light sets each of squat, bench and overhead press. Definitely going to be hurting tomorrow. The first week is the toughest, then once it becomes routine again I look forward to gym days.

Fixxer - Those diamond pushups are hard. I can't do very many.

CA- Good Work! Squats are one of the best exercises you can do for functional strength. Good form is better than more weight any day. Keep at it
