Negotations for a new arena broke down last year, and they are no longer talking to the city:

Seattle Flames?

So why should public money go into these sports venues?

If it does then are the tickets cheaper...no.

It appears Seattle will be awarded an expansion franchise instead. After watching the NHL hand Vegas a championship team, I'd rather have an expansion franchise.

If Calgary doesn't build the new arena, the team will just move somewhere that will, and there are lots of places.

Quebec City has new arena, but it's in Eastern Conference.

Could be an interesting race to the finish to see which player will get the most points this season. McDavid, Malkin, and MacKinnion all have 89 points and Kucherov has 91.

Playoffs are just around the corner:
Teams that still have a very slim chance
Florida
Carolina
Los Angeles
Dallas
Teams that are not mathematically eliminated, but have no chance
NY Rangers
Calgary
Maybe next year teams, they are eliminated (in no order)
NY Islanders
Montréal
Detroit
Ottawa
Buffalo
Edmonton
Chicago
Vancouver
Arizona

All the other teams are in the 2018 Playoffs, somewhere.

I think the Florida Panthers will probably bump out either New Jersey or Philly. They been playing very well lately.

Canadian fans hopes are with the only 2 Canadian teams in the playoffs Toronto & Winnipeg. Good thing they can't knock each other out unless they meet in Finals.

So now the oldest 2 arenas in league are, 1 is icon for some of the events held there over the years.
That one was built in 1968, it's Madison Square Garden in New York. The other is 15 years newer known as the Saddledome in Calgary.

Just little trivia

2 out of Florida remains 3 games are against red hot Bruins

New Jersey's remaining 2 games are against Toronto & Washington
Philadelphia remaining 2 games are against Carolina & NYR

impo Philly has best chances of winning both, all New Jersey needs to do is win or tie 1 game.

In the west
St Louis gets Chicago, Chicago & Colorado (St. Louis can catch either Anaheim or Colorado)
Dallas gets Anaheim & LAK (Dallas can only catch Colorado, but 1 point by Colorado & Dallas is out)

Anaheim last 3 games are Minnesota, Dallas & Arizona
Colorado last 2 games are San Jose & St. Louis
