Laser eye surgery in Kelowna

Postby kellsbells » Jan 24th, 2008, 8:32 pm

I am wondering if anybody who has had laser eye surgery in Kelowna could tell me where they went about how much they paid for it. i am pretty new to the area and do not really have anybody to give me any referrals. Thank You!

I talked to a place on Tutt Street and they seemed to know what was going on however they were 3 times as much as I paid in Calgary. Best thing you will ever do. 8 years ago and no problems at all. I paid $1000 total in 99.

ya dont get it done here....probably more expensive than it should be. My Friend went to Vancouver just the past couple weeks to get it done. I think it was just over a grand for both eyes...now he can see....

Some things to consider when getting laser surgery done.

1. The equipment. Look for clinics with the wavefront laser. It is the newest and most accurate on the market. The office here in town has invested in it, and there are some down in the lower mainland that have it. Don't expect to pay $1000.00 for the newer equipment.

2. Possible complications. If you have a serious complication after the surgery, you will have to deal with the clinic that did the surgery and travel and hotel will cost some.

I had the surgery done 8 years ago and love every minute of it. I was blind as a bat before hand.

Do careful research before you decide on cost alone.

Yup, I'd be looking for the discount eye surgeon....

I'd love nothing more than to have the surgery done. Both my brother and father had it done and they both said it was the best thing they did for themselves.

I looked into it as well but was told I'm too nearsighted to do it at the moment. Guess there is a new way of doing it that isn't widely used as of yet that would do the job. Time will tell.

Good luck in your search and enjoy!

I too am planning on getting this done, and I spoke to the folks on Tutt St. as well. I was impressed by how they presented themselves, and I understand why the cost is more than I could get similar procedures done on thew Coast for. All told, the process is going to cost me 3800 dollars, or 1895.00 per eye.

Like someone else mentioned, if you want the newest, best equipment and procedures, you can't expect to pay 500 bucks per eye.

When it comes to my vision, discount is not what I'm looking for.

I had my laser eye surgery last January. After much research, I chose to have Coal Harbour Eye Centre perform the procedure. They have an office here in Kelowna for pre and post op examinations, (all included with no extra charges) so you only have to go to Vancouver for the day of the actual procedure itself. They also have all the newest equipment, but were considerably less expensive than Kelowna Laser Surgery. Plus, all drug costs are included in the price too.
If you are considering Kelowna Laser Surgery, make sure you ask about post-operation follow up costs and drug costs.
I now have better than 20/20 vision, after 30 years of glasses. To say I am thrilled with the results is an understatement. This is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Interesting, I was told about follow-up costs, which could range from 60-70 dollars per, but wasn't told of any drug cvosts. What kind of drugs would be invloved in this process, they mentioned none...

At the very least, depending on which type of surgery they recommend, you will need several types of eye drops.

This is something I am interested in pursuing as well, however a few years back I was told that my prescription would have to be stable for a few years before I could get the surgery done. Does anybody know if this is still the case? If so, I doubt I'll ever be able to do it. My vision always seems to be worsening, the glasses I wear now no longer allow me to see clearly (and I accidentally just dried up one of my contact lenses).

Also, does astigmatism impact the ability to undergo a successful surgery?

Check out my threat down below called "Kelowna Laser Vision" - It documents my entire experience with the PRK procedure here in Kelowna. I had it done back in April of 2008 and so far, with the exception of dry eyes once and awhile, everything is good!

I had mine done here last Dec. Fantastic! I'm 50, and my mid life eye change had been stable for 2 years, which is what's required. One eye is for distance, one eye close up, works great, and now I can wear proper safety and sun glasses. With lasik, I had no real issues from day 1.

I've so far gone to Kelowna Laser Vision for thier free consultation. I have an appointment in Van on Saturday with LasikMD, then I go see Coal Harbour in Kelowna three days later. I think I'll have my bases covered with all that. Always hoping the cheapest option is as good as the pricey one. I haven't heard good or bad about LasikMD, any thoughts?
