Len Barrie - A spectacular fall from grace

Maybe my own thread title is incorrect, because I'm not sure Len ever had much grace.

For those who don't know, the Barrie family used to live in Kelowna.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning owner Len Barrie has been evicted from his mansion in the Victoria area, via court order:

Between bad loans, unpaid debts, and lawsuits, Len is on the hook for many millions of dollars. He's even into the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas for over 2 million. Wow.

Barrie's 12,500-square- foot mansion, built in 2008, has a resort-style patio with a pool, six bedrooms — four with ensuite bathrooms — 10 bathrooms, a games room, bar, wine cellar and a 12-person theatre. The master suite, at 1,800 square feet, has a steam room, soaker tub and hot tub.

Len has been extended many favors in business,but really does not have a head for running a successful one. He has hurt a few people and maybe now the negative publicity he is getting will prevent that from happening.

I'm starting to wonder with all the business ventures Len has been involved in...from Bear Mountain to the NHL Lightning...did he ever actually have any money? I get that large projects are funded by loans and investors...even the richest people tend not to have tens of millions in liquid assets, ready to throw into something at a moment's notice.

But Len built, and invested, and gambled, and lived like a multi-millionaire. And now it's all falling apart like a house of cards. I get that whatever plans he had didn't work, but how did he think this was going to end?

I needed somewhere to play golf so my response to them was good, we will build our own. We put this deal together with some great partners. We started it up and get all the major infrastructure in before the world economy blew up so we are very happy,” said Len Barrie. " It was like getting traded from a team. You want to go and kick the team in the ass and do well against them.

Sounds like a lot of work, any time for golf?

I love to golf but there is little time when you put 5000 minutes per month on the phone and are doing 5 full time jobs.

5000 minutes = 83.3333333 hours

Wow, that's like over 2 weeks a month full time on the phone! And you had "5 full time jobs on top of that?

Pretty impressive resume.

I delivered papers when I was 8 years old and had to collect money.Until you pay the bank back you are always at risk.

But you didn't pay the bank. What's you next plan of attack?

It has been a challenge but I am looking forward to golfing this year.

Lennie's developments had a habit of having the bulldozers show up the day before the permits.

When a local media outlet commented that Len wasn't making any friends with his activities, his response was "I have enough friends, I don't need any more"

People have attempted shots on him and he has no friends and the guy giving him the eviction notice was dressed in a CFC coat ??

My whole point was that maybe Len never actually had any money. Everything he did was based on borrowed money, either from banks, or investors.

By "attempted shots on him" do you mean there have been attempts on his life? I'd love to read about this, if there's been any media coverage. Links!

And for the life of me, I have no idea what CFC is. Canadian Film Centre? Chess Federation of Canada?

I'll connect the dots if you give me something more than innuendo.

Lets put this way apparently some attempts nave been made on his life. The Individual who gave him the eviction notice was wearing a Chelsea Football Club coat whose owner is known for his ruthlessness ( He would sack his own mother if she did not perform to his standards , look what he did to the " SPECIAL ONE" )and no one knows where he got his rubles from ??
A lot of NHL hockey players trusted him with their investments and they lost $$.

Len Barrie is heading back to court, but this time the former CEO of the Bear Mountain Master Partnership has initiated the legal action.

Barrie, the subject of recent legal proceedings involving Canada Revenue Agency, is suing the partnership's former accountants for breach of contract and for allegedly causing significant economic loss as well as humiliation, distress and embarrassment.

Let's see Len owed $300 million. HSBC was owed in excess of $250 million. And Len is supposed to have used more than $25 million from his partners.
