Men's Winter Olympic Hockey
The team is just about to be announced. They sure had tough decisions to make with all the superstar's Canada has.

Re: 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team
Not sure I am happy about Thornton and Neal being left off the team. I would have taken them instead of Benn and Kunitz. I know they want Crosby playing with one of his line-mates because of familiarity, but Neal is just a pure goal scorer that I would want out there with Getzlaf and Perry. That line would be unstoppable - like the old Mario Lemieux-Kevin Stevens - Rick Tocchet line from the early 1990's.

on paper we sure look better than everyone else. But that's just on paper. Our team usually doesn't play so well away from North America.

Hopefully that changes this time out.

Yeah let's hope - I would hate to see another repeat of 2008 in Nagano or even worse, of their performance in Torino in 2006 - man did Team Canada stink the joint out in that one.

Re: 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team
I'm not sure about Rick Nash and Jeff Carter being selected.
Nash has had great success on bigger ice, however he had a concussion this year and is not putting up is typical numbers.
James Neal should have definately made the team over either one of the above mentioned IMO.

Re: 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team
Since team Canada has huge talent pool deal from I suspect the choices were made on number of levels, the 2 main ones would be chemistry & leadership.
We are very fortunate to have so many to choose from, and yes there is going to those who think someone they missed or added. May or may not be right.
The proof for me is anything short of making gold medal game, will tell me a possible error was(/may have been) made in the roster. Until then I will just enjoy the games.

Re: 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team
Now that I look at Thornton's stats from 2010, he only had one goal and one assist, while playing on a line with Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau, his linemates at the time in San Jose. I can see why with that poor production, they probably wanted to go younger with Benn and Duchene.

Re: 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team
I think Sweden is the team to beat. And I wouldn't count home team Russia out either - can you imagine being a goalie and seeing Malkin, Datsyuk, and Ove coming down the ice at you? :-O Canada has lots of star power, but they'll have to think team first, and get used to the big ice that the Europeans are more familiar with, if they are going to win.

Looking back at 2010 only 1 Russian player was in ten 30 in points and that was Malkin with 6 points, Russia ending up in 6th place.
Hopefully they will play as a team this time and not bunch individuals.

I have babysat an Olympian (Shea Weber). Looks like that's as close as I will get to the Olympics.

In 2010 he scored a goal that went right threw the netting, on review it was counted as a goal.
