2016 Tim Horton's Brier Curling
How does a top team like Northern Ontario who lead 9-0, lose one game, end up not competing for second place in the Brier?

Its called Semi-finals, you win to go on to Finals. You lose in Semi-finals you move on to play for 3rd or 4th place.
Since curling is not best out of X.
So team can be lights out in qualifying rounds, then lose in quarterfinals match and be gone.
1 bad game at wrong time, can send the team packing.
