Re: Kelowna needs a downhill bike park EXACTLY like Kamloops
Why EXACTLY do people need a park to ride downhill?
There are many places this can be achieved.
or,
Is it you want someone/thing to transport you back to the top?
Too lazy to pedal????
Maybe your Mommy will give you a lift after church on Sunday....If you are good
and eat your veggies at every meal.
I've ridden the back-country for years and am appalled at the amount of
destruction of our natural areas.
The amount of signage and make-shift structures mostly paid for with OUR tax
dollars is appalling.

So. The City (at tax=payer's EXPENSE) should dish out thousands (if not a MILLION) on Mountain Bike Park jys for a bunch of pimply-faced teenagers to "ride"? Nice try ogopogodude. You pay, not me.

You guys are way off base.
A skills bike park would be, you know, for the young people. And like everything else that is for young people, bars, movie theaters, waterslides, fun theme parks, outdoor movie theaters, and the like, Kelowna has a NO CAN DO attitude.
Go South, Go North, Go East, Go West of Kelowna, and they can do it.
But not here.

As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Except as posted above, we HAVE one already! It was used a lot when it opened 6 years ago and as others have said, its now unmaintained and barely ever used...

As has already been posted several time - Kelowna already has a designated bike park...and, a very extensive trail system up Gillard Rd.

Gillard contains a vast amount of downhill/freeride trails, all meant for shuttling. Expect some HUGE drops, loads of man-made structures, ladders, bridges, wall rides and rocky technical terrain. The area is great for intermediate to expert riders. A typical run can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on your technical ability and on how often you stop to check out some of the insane lines.

Kelowna Mountain if far too small. Need something on the order of 400m in elevation for a proper downhill bike park. There are plenty of options in the hills surrounding Kelowna. Myra park being one.

So...the 1,500m+ of the Gillard trails isn't good enough for you ?

This is nonsense. The City funded a mountain biker park to the tune of $250k.
It was built, then neglected by the users due to lack of interest and apathy.
What part of that is not clear?

You can't compare the small existing bike park in Kelowna to the Ranch in Kamloops. It's just not the same thing. It's kind of like comparing the Scandia mini-putt golf course to a proper full size golf course.
Kamloops has a very nice facility with a BMX park at the top, Downhill section, XC trails and Freeride/Dirt jump area at the bottom that can be lit at night and even has a giant airbag to practice jumping into. The local bike shops get involved by offering clinics, kids camps, sponsoring races and demo days. The Ranch is fantastic for both kids and adults.
Most cities build playgrounds, waterparks, tennis courts and skateparks. Bike parks are the same thing. It's a safe place for people of all ages to have fun, learn or improve their bike skills, enjoy the outdoors, as well as promote physical activity and community engagement.

Actually you're way off base when you compare it to those things - those are private for-profit businesses. If a businessman thinks he can make money off a park, then they should indeed open one. That would create jobs, money flow, and give another recreation option. That's completely different than asking taxpayers to build one when it wouldn't attract enough to be profitable.

According to web pages, the Bike Ranch only has 132m of elevation change?
