A few CFL teams could use all the help they can get, within the rules of course.

would have been a different story if he was wearing a helmet instead of a ball cap

Yep, unfortunately pitchers don't wear a helmet when pitching, it would have be be cross between football & back catchers helmet. Just because of all the movement that happens with pitch. (Plus the pitcher view of first & third can't be blocked either)
Regular ball helmets would fall off.

I know what you mean however a chin strap or regular helmet redesign would be simple enough I remember Nhl goalies complaining to but when you consider the alternative I doubt you could convince them to play goal without a face mask now.

Pitching & goaltending are 2 totally different..... goaltending & back catching are alike.
Pitching is first the grip then combination of arm, balance & motion.
I could see someone developing a lightweight (with all protection needed) with good side visibility helmet. That would be grandfathered into MLB, starting in little League.

because pitchers move around so much when pitching and then have to be able to turn fast to keep an eye on the bases i really don't see how they can come up with anything that will work. but if we figure it out here we'll be rich! lol
