So much for Olympics being a politics-free zone.

State sponsored doping is apparently the reason. Imagine that!

There's been an ongoing scandal going over allegations that Russian govt helped athletes win by facilitating doping and avoiding detection. The IOC stripped a number of medals from the Russian team won at Sochi Olympics already. So, I guess the final accord is banning the entire team in South Korea.

Sad when politics get into sports like this.

I thought the Olympics was to bring all countries together and show their best?

It's not their best when Russia's athletes were falsely awarded medals because they had an unfair advantage with government assistance (taking unsanctioned performance enhancers). If one cannot follow the rules and make the games fun then they have no place at them. :130:

I agree, performance enhancing drugs have NO place in the Olympics. This is supposed to be about sportsmanship, on a level playing ground, with NO cheating, just NATURAL ability.
After all there were no drugs back when the Olympics began in Greece in the 8th century. They didn't even have Spandex back then. A pole for the Pole Vault did not contain fiberglass or carbon fiber materials.
Society has taken the Olympics into commercialism and away from athletes and their abilities to compete equally based upon TRUE athletics.

The problem with that is that accusations never been proven. So far only accusations were voiced with no real proof or tests or trials. Unless I missed it. IOC, therefore, makes their decisions on unproven allegations and more than likely is influenced by political pressure from other countries. That's where I see the problem - where politics spill into sports.

We aren't dealing with he said she said. No one in the IOC has anything but scrutiny to gain from this. For the topic of doping to even come up there is more than enough suspicion and therefore it happened. This isn't a case of innocent until proven guilty, governments have huge power when it comes to hiding information.

See, that's kinda my point. If no evidence needs to be presented and only accusations need to be made for something to happen, it's too easy to start something up.
