Please don't confuse the issue with facts. Everyone knows this is the Okanagan and its always someone elses fault.

Looks like they could be snow tires to me.

Looks to be an older Ford Explorer, which are known for having issues with rollovers/losing control due to tire pressure ratings that are too low.

Regardless, I don't think sand would help at all on slick ice at highway speeds.

Yes it can but you still need to slow down.

Exactly, the sand can only help if you're traveling at a slow enough speed.. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a "speed relative to conditions" ticket.

That stretch of road can be bad but its the old story of speed for conditions and correct tires. I guess at least he wasn't sleep deprived like the woman who landed on the golf course today, no excuses for bad roads or weather on that one just stupid people driving when they clearly shouldn't.

A lot better than some of the bald summer tires I have seen on some cars out there driving this time of year.

I always find it interesting checking out the vehicles parked at Happy Valley in Big White when i'm up there skiing. Its amazing just how many have either badly worn winters or no winters at all.

Actually, those look like your typical all-season truck tires, and there's lots of tread on them. All seasons typically have little or no siping, which is probably what you're looking for and basing your opinion on.

Although winters provide better traction, all seasons are fine for driving in most of the conditions that we see in the valley. They do not, however, provide any real traction in icy conditions. Was the road icy on the 24th?
