So why not show the guy's face/ Maybe someone will recognize him and turn him into Police.

I didn't doubt that, I was more curious as to why this News site didn't?

Why bother even reporting the story if they are not going to show his face?

They do with Police videos all the time.

I love fake notes left on victim's cars.

The most prolific witnesses to hit and runs in parking lots are husbands waiting for their wives and picketers (people on strike). The guy waiting for his wife is just quietly sitting, watching, minding his own business. The picketers, walking back and forth, not much to look at. Sad they are involved in a labor dispute by sure can be Johnny on the spot as witnesses.

Long before dash cams....

Witness sees a car scrape a parked car, obvious damage. The driver stops and obviously sees the group of picketers standing around watching him. The driver gets out and walks over to the car and writes something on a piece of paper and tucks it under the windshield wiper.

After the offending vehicle leaves, one of the picketers is curious what kind of information a person would leave on the windshield of a vehicle they have hit. So he goes over and looks at the note...

    I just bumped your car.
Lots of people are watching and they think I'm leaving my information.
    But I'm not.
    Sorry

Added to the note, when found by the owner of the car....

I'm one of the people watching this guy, and it was a [color, make, license plate number]
My name is [name] and my number is [phone number]

Judges like cases like that too

I'd suspect that it's all about liability and defamation of character. The person in the photo was supplied by the guy that owns the vehicle that was hit. But at this point, there's no proof that was the person that hit the vehicle, nor that the vehicle was hit at all.
Imagine if we released every image of every person that MAY have done something....that could cause a lot of grief to innocent people that someone else accused of doing something. Until police investigate, it's one person's word against another.

They post pictures from security cameras all the time and list it as a "person of interest".

The point being that the police are apparently looking to "talk" to this person and someone might recognize him if they could see his face. If they are either not or can't show the face then why bother even showing the video!

Someone did that to my wife last winter. I never even thought to ask if her dash cam would've been left on.
