That is what I was thinking the new light on Cambro and Sexsmith was installed this year and will hook up to the highway south of there.
If all goes to plan, then eventually this will go thru to the airport Quail Ridge road, and keep traffic to local business off 97 at Reid's Corner.
Is there only 2 of us on here that know about this.,?

Hollywood Road extension will ultimately allow you to drive from Rutland to UBCO without using Hwy 97 at all.
It will also allow a connection to John Hindle Dr to permit traffic to bypass the dipsy doodle through Sexsmith and Valley Road N.
Long overdue in my opinion. This has been in the OCP for at least 20 years.
Projects like Lakeshore Road jumped the queue to get ahead of other projects.

Grandan those traveling to south Glenmore area will still use Sexsmith & Valley rd to get to were they are going. Those heading to north Glenmore area will be taking John Hindle Dr (no guarantee on this one though) .

Yes, it was 80k through that area before construction.
I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they dropped it to
70 or even 60 though.

As they did in Winfield years ago, took an 80 k zone that was two lane
turned it into a 4 lane divided and it was at 50k for years before finally
coming up to the present 70k.
The amount of fines issued must have been astounding.

I'm sure the couple of big Transportation Companies that have their warehouses
down behind Kal Tire, and the Kal Tire customers as well as other area businesses
will think the light a Godsend.

Me, Personally, detest the out right over use of lights in the Region.

I believe after construction, it went from 80 down to 60. It was there for several years then upped to 70.

Back then I got a laugh at the AB tourists travelling S/B from Vernon. The winding road adjacent to Wood Lk. It was two lanes and the speed was 80 k. Then S/B you arrive at Osceola, the road opened up to four lanes, and the speed went down to 60 k. For the RCMP it must have been like shooting fish in a barrel.

Obviously the Highways Dept designed the roadway for a faster speed limit than 60 because there was even yellow warning lights at Berry (S/B at least) warning that the light was going to change (in a 60 zone ?)

In street view as of June 2016, the limit is 70 S/B until just North of Lodge, then down to 50, and the same yellow warning lights at Berry now in a 50 zone.

Across from Osceola is Woodsdale. Across from Berry is Berry

Actually there are a number of you incorrect as to the speed limit through Winfield.

If you are heading toward Vernon the speed limit drops from 90kph to 70kph just before Voyager RV, but the stupid part is it's only 70kph for a few moments as it drops to 50kph at the top of the hill across from Voyager RV and just before the Beaver Lake Road traffic light.

It remains 50kph through to Berry Road traffic light after which it goes back up to 70kph through to just after the Oceola Road traffic light where it goes to 100kph.

Many are under the mistaken notion that it's 70kph or 60kph through Winfield when in fact it isn't. RCMP often set up radar at Pollard Road and make a pretty good haul doing it.

Basically you need to remember that from Beaver Lake Road to Berry Road is 50kph regardless of which way you are going.

I have to add that it annoys me, because the excuse for putting the island divider in, which messed up access to the Petro Can when southbound, was because the speed limit was going to be raised and it hasn't been.

They also said that once the barriers were installed all the way to Vernon, which they have been, the speed limit on Hwy97 would be raised to 100kph so that it would be the same all the way, and that hasn't happened either.

I just didn't want to see anyone contributing to the policeman's ball unnecessarily.

I see plenty every day blowing through the 50kph zone doing 80kph or more.

Nope, never said anything about 70km/h between Beaver and Berry.

I doesn't matter what the speed limit is, I just follow traffic, so I don't even look through Kelowna. Effing traffic lights. Hate 'em. Worst designed highway in the "industrialized world." Do you know why there are more car accidents in the southern interior per capita than anywhere else in BC? Because the roads are crap. The powers that be in Victoria are stupid. Highway 97 through the Okanagan has more traffic now than highway 1 had in the Fraser Valley when it was properly twinned with overpasses, but because the politicians making the decisions don't realize this, they still think of the Okanagan as just another small town beyond Hope.

Between Vernon and Osoyoos (a 180km section of road) there is a traffic light every three km on average. It's pathetic. And even where there are no lights, like between Oyama and Vernon, the corners are banked the wrong way, and the intersections are on blind hills and corners, which creates hundreds of millions of dollars in extra damages from death and injuries and auto body insurance claims. They would have been far better in the long run designing an actual freeway years ago. Unfortunately, I don't see them pulling their heads out of their *bleep* any time soon.
